Tuesday night's episode of MKR left the contestants (and many viewers) in shock after judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge announced that there would be a history-making twist in the first elimination of the 2024 season. With the episode also focusing on the Instant Kitchen cook of the most divisive team in the competition - Fussy Friends Mike and Pete - everyone was on the edge of their seats to find out what on earth the cooking competition had in store for them.

But first, there was some drama as Mike - who copped backlash for implying that fellow contestant Lawrence had played up the death of his mother to win sympathy votes during his cook - teared up as he welcomed his guests to his restaurant and said he was so happy to have everyone there. As you can imagine, Lawrence was less than impressed, telling the camera that he was "super frustrated, super hurt and super angry" at Mike's tears.

"Is it rich of Mikey to get teary after having a chop at Lawrence for getting teary and essentially saying he's doing it for a sympathy vote?" fellow contestant Sonia asked. "Yeah, it is."

So, with that serene ambience firmly established at Mike and Pete's Instant Kitchen, they got to work making their crayfish ravioli, osso bucco and cannolis with ricotta in the hopes that their castmates could look past their previous misdeeds and rate them highly for their culinary skills - a tall order indeed.

As one fan said on X, "The audacity and gall of that guy. Nah, we’re also judging your character."

"Mike reduced to tears - and calls Lawrence out for bringing emotional! Ha! Pot. Kettle. Black!" another said.

Meanwhile, Colin told the dinner guests that there was a good reason they had been drilling into the contestants that their place on the leaderboard was important and that they would soon find out why - which would have sounded quite threatening were it not for the fact that Colin seems like a genuinely nice dude with a pretty cool accent.

As it turned out, the reason the leaderboard was SO important was because, in a MKR first, TWO teams were going to be sent home during the very first elimination of the season.

"Two teams going home! Unholy Cannolis!" a viewer wrote on X.

"Whoa! Two teams going home #harsh," said another.

Sadly, with fan favourites Danny and Sonia last on the scoreboard, they were the first to be sent packing.

"I'm sad to see Danny and Sonia go," one fan wrote on X.

"No, not Sonia," one person wrote (bit harsh to poor Danny!).

"Oh no Danny and Sonia nooooo, I really liked them," another sad fan wrote on Facebook.

"Sorry for Danny and Sonia, they did well in a very competitive show. They were lovely to watch and wish them well," said another.

"Sad to see you guys leave 💔," one fan wrote on the siblings' Instagram.

"I’m a bit upset Danny and Sonia left. They were the true blue Aussies," another viewer wrote on Facebook.

"Shame the best team got sent home tonight Danny and Sonia," someone else lamented.

After tallying the scores for Mike and Pete's cook - which was saved by their cannolis - it was 'Young Mums' Ash and Cassie who also had to hang up their aprons.

While front-runners Rob and Liam were told they'd be heading straight to Kitchen Headquarters, the remaining three teams will be tasked with going around Australia again as three new teams enter the fray to try to knock them out of the competition.
