Jenna Bush Hager revealed that her father’s viral “goofy” facial expressions during Donald Trump’s inauguration have been “blowing up” the Bush family group chat.

All of the living presidents were in attendance at Monday’s ceremony, but it was George W. Bush who starred on social media.

Users couldn’t stop laughing at the smirky look often on his face when the broadcast cameras would cut to Bush—one person on X called it his “10-year-old-Christmas-concert-spirit.” Another remarked that it looked like “he put a whoopee cushion on [Hillary Clinton’s] seat and he’s anxiously waiting for her to sit on it.”

While hosting the Today show on Tuesday, Bush Hager said that her father’s tics during the ceremony were “blowing up our family group chat.”

“Yeah, my dad went viral for these cutaway shots during yesterday’s broadcast,” she added. “The internet’s obsessed with this little smile and goofy expression.”

Of one particularly viral moment, when the 43rd president raised his eyebrows and grinned, Bush Hager explained that he “must have made eye contact with somebody.”

Bush Hager pinned some of the blame for her father’s goofiness on the fact that he was “seated next to a bad influence”—former President Barack Obama, who had joked before the event that Bush wasn’t going to behave.

“I just love how when they’re together, they become unusual friends,” Bush Hager remarked.

The inauguration was the second time that the presidents have gathered this month. At Jimmy Carter’s funeral, Bush and Obama were also chatty—although, in that case, it was shared laughter between Obama and Trump that captured the attention of social media.
