MAFS' Beth reveals why Teejay and Jamie's 'hookup' was edited out of the show

As if Monday night’s episode of Married At First Sight wasn’t dramatic enough, it’s been revealed there were two major bombshells dropped that were completely edited out. Not only did Rhi Disljenkovic and Jeff Gobbels announce they had finally slept together in an unseen moment, but Jamie Marinos confessed that she had previously slept with intruder groom Teejay Halkias.

The pair are believed to have hooked up around a decade ago when they both lived in Adelaide and remained friends. A quick social media stalk reveals that Jamie and Teejay had liked each other's posts on Instagram up until June 2024, one month before she filmed her MAFS wedding, and they still follow each other.

While the revelation was said to have “completely rocked the experiment”, Beth Kelly tells Yahoo Lifestyle she believes it wasn’t shown on TV because it “wasn’t really a big deal”.

“Jamie came over and told my bridesmaid and my sister but I wasn't at the table at the time,” she details. “And then obviously Teejay knew what she told them and he basically just said to me that they were friends, they’d known each other since they were like 18 I think, and that it was just a drunken fumble that happened. So I kind of just had to take his word for it at the time.”

Beth feared there would be a 'cheating scandal'

Beth admits that while she’s since become good friends with Jamie, there was a part of her that was “a little bit worried” about her relationship with Teejay

“I've seen MAFS before and I know that cheating scandals go on and sometimes someone's a bit more attracted to someone else than their own partner, so I kind of just thought, ‘Oh my god, is this going to be my storyline? Is my husband going to want Jamie?’,” she recalls.

“He just said they were friends but there was still something in the back of my mind that was like, 'Did they date? Are there feelings there? Is there an attraction there?'. It was just a bit of a whirlwind, but I guess I just had to trust my partner at the time so it kind of just blew over.”

The UK-born bride adds that her fears were immediately quashed when she saw Jamie and Teejay interact and realised “there was literally nothing going on”.

“There were no vibes between them,” she remarks. “I knew that Jamie obviously was really into Dave [Thomas], so I found it out and I just let it go. It really didn't bother me, it didn't fester at all. There was nothing really to it and it was kind of irrelevant, to be honest.”

Jacqui and Ryan 'hijacked' the wedding day

Although Jamie’s confession wasn’t included in the episode, Jacqui Burfoot’s emotional breakdown was given plenty of airtime. Beth shares that she was frustrated with Jacqui on the day because she “hijacked” her and Teejay’s wedding, but she’s since come to learn that’s the type of person she is.

“It definitely wasn't the right time or place. If I was Jacqui I would have just kept my mouth shut because I would have thought about other people and been a bit more self-aware, but that's just Jacqui, isn't it? That’s who she is,” she says. “I feel like she always somehow tries to make it about herself. So yeah, that's just typical Jacqui, I guess.”

She shares that Jacqui’s arguments with Ryan Donnelly “left a bad taste in my [her] mouth”, but she enjoyed getting to meet the other brides and grooms.

“Everybody else was lovely. Everyone was so welcoming and so accommodating,” she gushes. “Everyone went out of their way to really come up and talk to us. Everybody else was beautiful, it was just Jacqui and Ryan I was a little bit like, ‘Hmm I’m not really sure about you two’.”
