When Vivien graduated with a double master’s degree in Professional Accounting and Business, she was excited about her first job in the finance world.

However, despite her impressive qualifications, getting a job wasn't easy. "I had done everything right - studied hard, earned my degrees - and yet I couldn’t find a job," Vivien recalls. "It felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me, and I didn’t know how to move forward.

After a period of depression where she "felt she'd lost all control over her life," Vivien decided to do something that she'd enjoy and where she'd find a sense of purpose. She enrolled in a lash extension course; something she thought she'd do to help friends and family feel good about themselves.

Once she started applying traditional lash extensions for people, she realised there were several issues with the products. Time-consuming to apply, they were also expensive and often caused allergic reactions because of the harsh adhesives used.

So, she decided to create her own. "Seeing how much time and money my clients were spending, and knowing the health risks involved, I knew there had to be a better way," says Vivien. "I wanted to create something that made beauty more accessible and less of a burden."

So, Custom Lashes was born. Built on the belief that beauty should be accessible and affordable, Vivien designed a line of lashes that could be easily applied at home.

Each lash line uses a strong bond, complete with a sealant to ensure the lashes stay in place for five to seven days. They're reusable and come in 10 different styles to suit your personal aesthetic.

"I wanted to give women the freedom to look their best without having to compromise on time or money," Vivien explains. "Whether you're getting ready for a night out or just want to feel a bit more polished during the day, there's a style for every occasion."

A year after launching, Custom Lashes have become a viral sensation, generating over $1 million in online sales.

"I never imagined it would grow this quickly," Vivien says. "But it's a reminder that sometimes, the hardest times in our lives can lead to the most rewarding opportunities."
