MAFS' Rhi and Jeff's major relationship update edited out of the show: 'Big moment'

Despite having one of the strongest relationships in the experiment, Married At First Sight fans haven’t seen too much of Rhi Disljenkovic and Jeff Gobbels so far this season. The couple, who dated for a month in 2023 before reuniting at their wedding, are yet to be shown having any complications and have instead been building a strong emotional connection.

While they admitted at the recent commitment ceremony that they still hadn’t been intimate with one another, Rhi tells Yahoo Lifestyle that they finally took the next step in their relationship this week on the show. In fact, the 35-year-old bride reveals that she and Jeff, 39, announced the news to their co-stars at Beth Kelly and Teejay Halkias’ wedding and it was completely edited out of Monday night’s episode.

“One of the big moments [that wasn’t shown] was Jeff and I actually slept together, and there was a massive announcement and someone screamed it across the room and everyone started cheering for us. It had nothing to do with Beth and Teejay's wedding, but that announcement was made!” she shares.

“I'm sure that will come up this week at some point, but I think there was a lot more going on that Jeff and I's intimacy wasn't a main concern.”

Why Rhi and Jeff waited to sleep together

Rhi explains that she and Jeff finally slept together after four weeks in the experiment because “the moment felt right”, but they also felt a lot of pressure from their co-stars to progress their relationship.

“To be honest, there was earlier pressure because some people did it on their honeymoon. A lot of people were saying like, ‘You've slept together before, I don't understand, just do it again’,” she recalls.

“But we knew that our sex life worked well, that wasn't the issue. It was just the timing and we just weren't ready to be in a relationship at that point in time. So I guess we thought instead of doing that straight away and maybe it fizzling out, we could work on an emotional connection. And that's exactly what we did and in the end, it worked out in our favour.”

Rhi spills on Jacqui's text to Jeff

Although she and Jeff’s relationship update wasn’t shown on TV, one of the biggest moments in Monday night’s episode was when Rhi confronted Jacqui Burfoot for messaging her partner behind her back.

Rhi asserts to Yahoo Lifestyle that she never thought Jacqui was trying to start a “cheating scandal” with Jeff or had any “ill intentions” asking to meet up with him alone. However, she’s still unclear exactly what Jacqui’s motive was and didn’t appreciate how everything unfolded.

“I think maybe she did just want an opinion from Jeff, but it's more the way that she went about it,” she says. “Jacqui and I had no negative interactions really prior to that, so when she said ‘alone’, I kind of thought, ‘Hey, I'll help! I can give you some good advice as well’. I just found it really strange that she kind of singled Jeff out and didn't want me there. I guess it was just a funny situation.”

Rhi adds that her “biggest concern” was the way Jacqui went about messaging Jeff in secret - as well as the “inconsistency” in her relationship with Ryan Donnelly.

“If I could see that she was really struggling, I probably would have maybe not confronted her like I did,” she details. “But I think watching her ebb and flow - like Alessandra [Rampolla] talks about flip-flopping - when you see that constant flip-flop, I thought, ‘Stuff it I'm gonna say something’.

“But I don't think it was like a cheating scandal. I think it was maybe she did just want Jeff's advice. She probably thought Jeff was a nice guy and she just went about it the wrong way.”
