The Block star 'begged' producers not to air 'cruel' dig at her husband

EXCLUSIVE: Mimi was reportedly 'terrified' of being portrayed as a 'villain' following her outburst.

The Block is known for pushing contestants to their limits with how much they have to do in such a small amount of time, so viewers weren’t too surprised to see Kristian burst into tears during Tuesday night’s episode. What was surprising, however, was his wife Mimi’s “cruel” response to his breakdown.

Amid the stress of having to present their hallways by Thursday and office and rumpus room by Sunday, Foreman Dan decided to shut down Kristian and Mimi’s worksite and force them to clean up their mess. Dan’s strict punishment was clearly Kristian’s breaking point as he stormed off in a swearing tirade and began crying when he sat alone in the shower.

Mimi’s immediate reaction was to ask Dan why he made Kristian cry, before running into the house and screaming his name.

“What are you doing? You can’t react like that,” she said as he begged for “five minutes” by himself without cameras in his face.

Mimi then walked off and yelled “I’m leaving!”, before going to Dan and speaking negatively about Kristian behind his back.

“How f**king embarrassing is he? Who the f**k acts like that? He’s crying,” she remarked. “I’m like, embarrassed as f**k. I’ll leave his a**.

“Crying when you’re happy is fine, but crying when you’re sad is like, be a man. Eat some concrete. It’s a bit embarrassing.”

A production insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that Mimi “begged” the show’s producers not to air her reaction to Kristian’s breakdown as she was “terrified” of being portrayed in a negative light - especially after she saw reports early in the season that they were tipped to be the ‘villains’.

“Mimi felt set up and believed producers wanted to break her and portray her like this all along,” the source claims. “She begged the producers not to show the epic row with her husband, but it has gone to air and she is allegedly disappointed that producers left this meltdown in the edit.

“The rest of the season Mimi really tries to make up for the unfair attack on Kristian, but fans won’t forget that outburst and it will be interesting to see how the public reacts to her moving forward.”

During Tuesday night’s episode, Mimi admitted in her piece-to-camera interview that she knows her reaction to Kristian’s outburst wasn’t “normal”.

“I find it hard to comfort because usually, Kristian’s the one comforting me,” she reflected. “I don’t like how I react to it. When I cried when I was younger, my mum would always say, ‘Why are you crying? What are you doing that for? Grow up, snap out of it’ instead of comforting me. And I didn’t realise that I adopted that.

“I think that’s something I definitely need to hone in on.”

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle in August, the newlyweds said their experience on The Block was definitely a “test” as they each behaved in ways they had never seen before.

“It's a weird place,” Mimi shared. “You’re sleep-deprived, I’m driving bloody hours, Kristian’s being asked questions in all different directions, and you learn a lot about each other. And then you're trying to work on your relationship whilst you're doing this crazy renovation show with cameras in your face.

“So everyone has arguments, like all the other houses as well, but I found that when we finished the show we were like, ‘Oh my god, I'm so proud of us’. Like, how did we do that? We finished a room every week, we finished a house in three months, and we came out of it stronger - but we needed to come out of it to have perspective. Because when you’re in it, you’re not in the real world.”
