The Block's Kristian and Mimi hit back at controversial 'villain' label: 'Cruel'
EXCLUSIVE: Kristian and Mimi reveal what they really think of their âeditâ.
Whether you love them or hate them, itâs hard to deny that âvillainsâ are often the most entertaining part of reality TV. Sure, Kristy and Brett stirred up plenty of controversy on last yearâs season of The Block when they âsabotagedâ other houses and shared âconspiracy theoriesâ about their co-stars, but they also sparked conversations, boosted ratings, and became the favourites among fans who could laugh at their sassy one-liners and savage gameplay.
It was reported earlier this year that season 20 couple Kristian and Mimi were set to be the next âvillainsâ on the renovation reality show, with an insider telling Yahoo Lifestyle that the South Australian newlyweds would be even more âdivisive to viewersâ than Kristy and Brett. The production source claimed: âThe feeling is that we have bought some serious dynamite with these two and we are just waiting for an explosion.â
While Kristian and Mimi have indeed been divisive this season, with fans left outraged after the electrician forged Foreman Danâs signature in a never-before-seen âcheating scandalâ this week, the pair have now shut down reports that they are âvillainsâ.
âThe description of villain is like how you'd see in Disney movies, like an evil person thatâs cruel,â Mimi tells Yahoo Lifestyle. âIâm just not that type of person in real life, or in any life, and neither is Kristian.â

Kristian admits he âhad a laughâ and âbrushed it offâ when he saw reports that he and his wife were tipped to be the âvillainsâ, however, Mimi says she was âabsolutely shockedâ.
âIt made me question myself and it made me go, âOh wait, is this true?â. It made me doubt myself,â she details, before sharing that she ultimately decided not to change anything about her behaviour on-camera.
âMy biggest thing is authenticity, and I was like that from start to finish. I loved everyone so much as well, all the other contestants, so it didn't change anything.â
Kristian and Mimi share honest thoughts on their 'edit'
Although some reality TV contestants might feel anxious watching themselves on TV and seeing how theyâve been âeditedâ, Kristian and Mimi share theyâve been enjoying the experience so far.
âItâs so weird, because the thing is, you know what your experience was but you don't know what they'll include. And then we watch it and it's like, âOh my god, did we really say that?â,â Mimi remarks. âBut I enjoy watching us, I think we have banter.â
âThat's sort of how we are in our everyday life,â Kristian adds. âWe try not to take life too seriously and we're always keen to have a laugh or keen to have a joke, and the way that they're portraying it is, so far, pretty much how we are in our everyday life.â

The couple also reveal that The Block was their honeymoon after tying the knot three months before filming began, and the experience put their relationship to the test.
âIt really was a test. Kristian was doing things that I've never seen him do before, and Iâm sure I was behaving in ways because it's a weird place,â Mimi says. âYouâre sleep-deprived, Iâm driving bloody hours, Kristianâs being asked questions in all different directions, and you kind of learn a lot about each other.
âYou're trying to work on your relationship whilst you're doing this crazy renovation show whilst cameras are in your face, so everyone has arguments. But I found that when we finished the show we were like, âOh my god, I'm so proud of usâ. Like, how did we do that? We finished a room every week, we finished a house in three months, and we came out of it stronger, but we needed to come out of it to have perspective. Because when youâre in it, youâre not in the real world.â
