The second round of cook-offs on MKR has begun with three new teams entering the competition to shake things up. Mother and son Caz and Fergus were the first gatecrasher team to host with their Instant Restaurant, Tunes and Spoons, combining a love of food and music (Fergus is a musician who has supported Ed Sheeran on tour).

Caz and Fergus decided to dish up a menu consisting of a Twice Baked Leek and Cheese Souffle entrée, Pinenut and Pistachio Toothfish Vichyssoise and Miso Caramel Cheesecake with Shichimi Togarashi and got to work creating magic in the kitchen for their guests. The souffle was “cooked perfectly” according to Manu Feildel - although he noted it lacked something fresh to cut through the richness - and was largely enjoyed by the rest of the teams too.

However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice a very odd detail about the entrée, and quickly took to social media to share their amusement and confusion.

"A soufflé straight from the oven and you just pick it straight up!!!! How long was it out of the oven for?," one viewer wrote on Facebook.

The post was met with a chorus of replies from people saying they had noticed the same thing.

"Haha first thing I noticed tonight," one said.

"Yes, no oven mitt," someone else wrote. "Picked it up with bare hands so had to be not nice and hot and fresh out of the oven."

"I've noticed that before many times on other episodes," another person said.

"Thought the same...but I have read previously that the food is generally cold," yet another viewer offered.

Other viewers noted that while Caz and Fergus had used a cloth to take the hot ramekins out of the oven, moments later they were then seen carrying them out to their guests with their bare hands.

"They used a cloth to get them out of the oven," one fan noted. "But carried them to the table with bare hands. So they must have been sitting on the kitchen counter for a while."

Now, even taking into account the fact that we know that food is typically served cold on cooking shows like MKR and MasterChef, the issue here is that souffle collapses as it cools down so you really only have a couple of minutes to serve them before they look a bit sad.

"For best results, souffle must be served and eaten immediately after they have finished cooking," one person noted.

However, thanks to the magic of TV, Caz and Fergus's dishes were still looking nice and fluffy as they carried them out to their hungry dinner guests.

So, was the souffle served stone cold yet mysteriously intact? Or do Caz and Fergus have some human superpower that allows them to transcend pain and carry piping hot ramekins in their bare hands or are they secretly harbouring third-degree burns after trying to be heroes? We may never know but as one viewer wisely suggested, "Hmmm I think let’s just give them the TV tricks and enjoy. But I appreciate your attention to cooking detail."
