Trigger warning: This article contains content around eating disorders that some readers may find confronting

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers have called out the reality show for the way they promoted Skye Wheatley’s emotional discussion about her battle with an eating disorder on social media.

During Tuesday night’s episode, the influencer and former Big Brother star revealed to her co-stars that she had previously suffered from bulimia.

“When I was much younger I struggled with an eating disorder,” she shared. “Just all the pressure, and having Instagram and being in the spotlight and whatnot, I felt that I had to look a certain way.

“I’m a really bad binge eater. I still suffer chronic binge eating but I’ve learned to control it a lot more so my episodes are less. Whereas I used to do it like, once a week and you’d feel sick with the amount of food that I could eat in one sitting.”

While fans praised Skye’s honesty and vulnerability, they had an issue with how Channel 10 promoted the moment on social media earlier in the day.

The show’s official social media accounts shared a gallery of photos on Tuesday afternoon teasing some of the episode’s upcoming moments, including ‘Ellie’s snake bite and rat bite’, ‘Callum learns to wash’ and ‘jungle fashion’.

One tile simply said ‘SKYE’S EATING DISORDER - TONIGHT’, which many people argued should have been posted with a trigger warning.

'Really bad taste'

“Whoever decided tile #3 was a good idea to post needs to have a rethink,” one person wrote. “A very important but potentially triggering topic that needs to be spoken about but should not be used in an advertisement as a ‘hook’. Really bad taste Channel 10.”

“Absolutely couldn't have said it better. So disappointing that someone's experience with this illness is presented in such a way,” another added.

“What on earth on tile 3. Could’ve used much better wording,” a third commented, while someone else replied, “Next time a trigger warning?”.

“Y’all didn’t even specify that some topics may have been triggering? Insane for you to also post about it,” a different user said, followed by another who said, “This is HORRIFICALLY bad taste”.

Channel 10 has since removed the slide from social media and shared a quote tile of Skye saying it would mean to world to her if she could be “the example for other girls” struggling with similar issues.
