I'm A Celebrity 2024: Here's how much money the contestants are paid

The reality show is known for splashing out cash on its famous cast members.

Given they have to encounter scary creatures and consume various stomach-churning dishes, it’s no surprise contestants are paid the big bucks to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

This year’s season features an array of reality stars, sporting legends and international names, all with varying levels of fame and therefore, very different salaries.

While there has been plenty of speculation over the years about how much the celebrities are paid to appear on the show, season two winner Brendan ‘Fev’ Fevola recently shared details about the salaries and explained that you get more money the longer you stay in the jungle.

“In 2015 I got paid $250,000 upfront, and then $5,000 every show after the [first] two weeks,” he said on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick on Monday. “So you’d lay there on a Sunday and you’d think, ‘There’s another 7 days, there’s $35,000, boom. Hopefully, they don’t have an eviction during the week’.”

According to Pedestrian, one of this year’s male celebrities is being paid $90,000 for a minimum of two weeks in the jungle and will receive an extra $5,500 every day after that.

The publication also asked a handful of 2024 contestants directly about their pay cheques, with reality star Callum Hole revealing that he was paid “good money” and “a lot more than Love Island”.

Meanwhile, influencer and former Big Brother star Skye Wheatley said money wasn’t her motivation for going on the show and she would actually be earning more if she stayed home.

“I’d do it for free,” she said. “It’s for charity, babes, who gives a f**k about the money. I love that it can be for charity and I love the opportunity. So I’m very grateful.”

Celebrity chef Khanh Ong, who has previously competed on MasterChef twice and Australian Survivor once, also shared that he’s been asked to do I’m A Celebrity “about four times” and this year he was offered “a considerable amount more” than the first time he was asked.

How much were the 2023 contestants paid?

Former Bachelor star Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins was the highest-paid contestant last year with a salary “around $250,000 to $300,000”.

“It’s a little less than the $500,000 that he was paid for The Bachelor, but this is a shorter production with less demands and rules,” an insider told Yahoo Lifestyle. “It’ll all be done in a few weeks, unlike The Bachelor, where he had to put his life on hold for six months.”

Meanwhile, Kerri-Anne Kennerley was rumoured to have been paid $180,000 for her four-day stint in the jungle. Comedian Peter Helliar also reportedly earned $90,000 and former Australian Idol judge Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickinson is believed to have been paid $80,000.

Some of the less high-profile celebrities allegedly earned a much smaller salary of just $50,000, including MAFS star Domenica Calarco, radio host Woody Whitelaw, and AFL player Adam Cooney.

Who has been the highest-paid celebrity?

Shane Warne revealed in his memoir No Spin that he was paid a whopping $2 million to appear on the reality show in 2016, which was the total budget for the previous year’s cast and the highest amount any contestant has ever received.

His contract also allowed him to continue smoking, as long as he was “about a hundred yards away from the camp”, and get his hair “redone” every three weeks.
