Elton John Reveals Celeb He Asked for an Autograph—and We Don’t Blame Him
Elton John just recalled perhaps the only time he's ever asked anyone for an autograph, and the story is too cool not to share.
During the 77-year-old's recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert arranged a Q&A type game for the "I'm Still Standing" crooner in honor of his new doc streaming on Disney+, Elton John: Never Too Late.
Colbert started the Feb. 6 segment by kicking around a few easy and somewhat basic questions, inquiring about John's favorite sandwich, the first concert he attended and what animal he's most scared of before pivoting to more intimate asks. One of which asked the "Rocket Man" singer if he had ever asked someone for an autograph, to which he replied affirmatively—but it wasn't just any famous face; it was a truly legendary A-list musician.
"Who?" Colbert, 60, questioned.
"Elvis Presley," John said without hesitation.
"Now hold on a second here," Colbert said with shock and awe. "Did you get it?
"Yep," the award-winning artist simply replied.
"More importantly," Colbert continued, "Do you still have it?"
"Yep," John said once more before revealing details about the autograph.
"It's on a tour program," he said. "I went to go see him in Washington, D.C., so I have his autograph."
Colbert, looking to get all of the insider info, asked if the autograph was personalized to the British singer.
"No," John shared, explaining when he saw Presley in concert, "He was not well at the time," noting that "he was very shaky" but still signed the paper.
"I was just so incredibly impressed to be in the same room as him," John added. "So I value it very much."
Interestingly, it was only about a week before when Nicole Kidman sat down with the comedian, who prompted her with the same question about autographs and she revealed she owns a memento signed by the celebrity pianist.
