In news that has reverberated through the Bluey fandom, the Royal Australian Mint is set to release a collector's edition set of “Dollarbuck” $1 coins. Bluey gets one coin all to herself (she is the star, after all) and there is also one of her with her family and another featuring the 'Grannies.'

The limited run coins will be available by EQL ballot, the Canberra Mint shop, and authorised retailers and will come in both individual coin cards as well as “bespoke” three-coin envelope sets. The in-demand coins - which will be released on June 6, have been described as a 'timeless treasure' by BBC Studios director of brands and licensing ANZ Kate O’Connor.

Says Royal Australian Mint chief executive Leigh Gordon, “What better way to start your child’s or grandchild’s coin collection than with a Bluey coin?”

The news of the collectibles was met with fever-pitch excitement by fans of the animated series, which is currently on hiatus following its season three finale.

"I hope this is for real life," one enthusiastic fan wrote on Facebook while another echoed, "If this is for real life, I want one so bad....!!!"

"Hope this is true, I need them," someone else added.

"Amazingly wonderful for us Aussies, Congratulations Bluey," a third wrote.

"I have never collected coins, but I want to collect these!" another person excitedly said.

A few people also made jokes about the fact the coins are called "Dollarbucks' with some commenters asking why they weren't called "dollarydoos" instead.

Others made jokes about purchasing the coin sets instead of paying for more practical things - such as the person who quipped, "Forget my insurance, I'm paying the money for these instead."

Even the international Bluey fans were elated by the news with one intrepid person suggesting they were willing to travel in order to secure the collectibles writing, "I need to go to Australia just to get some Bluey money."

"Looks like the Australian dollar might be worth something in USD after all," another person joked.

Amongst all of the excitement and plans to do whatever it takes to become the proud owners of the coins, a number of people took offence at the price.

"65 BUCKS !! what a fkn rip mate. And they're only 2 dollar coins," one angry person wrote.

"Who can afford $55 for 3 coins?" asked another.

One person seemed to think the release could be a good investment writing, "I’ll buy them. Limited time means they’ll sell for a fortune!"

There were also a number of comments debating the point of the coins amid the country's continued move towards going cashless.

However, one person who appeared to think the whole thing was a waste of time put these concerns to rest.

"They are commemorative coins, not for legal tender or circulation," they complained. "Boring."

What a buzzkill!
