Bluey fans are going crazy trying figure out that mystery at the end of 'Surprise'

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Bluey episode 'Surprise.'

Following the 28-minute season three finale episode 'The Sign', Bluey fans flocked to social media to share their devastation that the show was now on hiatus - as previously announced by the show's creators. However, in a very happy twist for lovers of the Heeler family, a bonus episode dropped on Sunday, April 21st - leaving viewers both delighted...and scratching their heads.

Per the synopsis for the seven-minute episode - aptly titled 'Surprise' - "Bluey and Bingo want Dad to play different games, so Dad tries to play both at the same time. Now Dad must babysit all Bingo’s pretend babies made from stubby holders and tennis balls while running from Bluey who keeps surprising Dad with a ball blaster!

"One of Bingo’s babies’ body is too big for his head and Dad has to take him to the pretend hospital near the tree outside – where Bluey is waiting to ambush! But when Bluey hears Dad telling the baby that his family will always support him, Bluey drops her game and decides to help instead."

However, the part of the episode that really got everyone talking was at the end when the show apparently flashes forward to the future and we see an adult Bluey coming to visit her parents at their beloved Queenslander home which was almost sold in 'The Sign.'

“Just thought I’d pop by,” says Bluey as audiences around the world sob quietly into their Bluey brandished hankies/t-shirts/dishtowels. As Bluey and Chilli (who now wears glasses to demonstrate the passage of time) go off to the kitchen for a cuppa, the doorbell rings again and is this time answered by a slightly greyer Bandit.

At first, it seems as though no one is there but then we see a little pup waiting cheekily at the side of the door with - wait, we have to pause to wipe away a sentimental tear here - a BALL BLASTER!

That's right folks, in an adorable full-circle moment it seems that Bluey is now a mum and her offspring is as fond of firing tennis balls at poor old Bandit as she was. Either that or the Heelers now have a tiny bully living in their neighbourhood who has made Bandit his elderly target.

Taking to a variety of online fan forums, adult viewers debated who could have fathered the child if he or she was, in fact, Bluey's.

"Can we talk about the fact that is a little Bluey/Mackenzie baby?!" one person excitedly wrote - referring to Bluey's best bud (and occasional frenemy).

"I truly think it’s Bluey and McKenzie's child because they even joked about Bluey marrying McKenzie," another fan wrote.

Another said, "If it’s not Mackenzie I’d be sad," while another offered, "Just by the ears I think the kid is Bluey and Mackenzie’s."

Someone else said adamantly, "That's Blueys kid and if I'm not mistaken she or he has a black and blue pattern so Mackenzie and Bluey had a kid."

"It's absolutely MacKenzie's baby!," said another.

However, others debated that perhaps the dad could be Jean-Luc (the Canadian labrador with whom Bluey shared a deep connection) while others were insistent that the child was not Bluey's at all.

"I’m convinced it’s Bingo’s kid," someone wrote. "Lighter tail tip like Bingo and Bingo was already at the house when Bluey showed up."

"I think it’s Bingo’s kid," another said. "Not Bluey’s. Chilli says Bingo is out back."

Another person had really thought it through writing, "I don't think Chilli or Bandit would just turn around like that, close the door and ignore their arriving grandkid... So I don't believe it's Blueys kid tbh. I think it was made for us to believe so, but it will end up not being her kid at all."

Meanwhile, someone else put forward yet another theory, proposing that the kid was someone else's entirely. "Everyone saying that it’s Bluey‘s kid, yet I’m going with it is Brandi‘s kid," the disruptor wrote. "If Bluey is 18 at the end of the episode, the timeline would match for the [heelers] to be watching Brandy's kid at the time."

The poster was referring to the reveal at the end of 'The Sign' that showed Brandy - Chilli's sister - finally pregnant after seemingly struggling with infertility. The episode prompted hundreds of fans to share their own touching and heartbreaking stories of loss and trying to conceive in an online forum for adult fans of the show.
