Sunrise stars praised for 'hilarious' BTS video: 'This is amazing'

Sunrise’s social media team have shared a hilarious video online giving fans a glimpse of what it’s like on the set of Australia’s number one breakfast program.

The clip features a number of the show’s presenters and behind-the-scenes crew recreating a viral scene from the popular sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In the video, a producer inside a control booth asks several camera operators and other crew members to sing different lines from the Backstreet Boys’ classic song I Want It That Way.

When it gets to the chorus, hosts Natalie Barr and David ‘Kochie’ Koch are seen sitting on the Brekky Central couch singing and swaying along to the music while others join in behind them.

Edwina Bartholomew, who recently returned to the show after six months of maternity leave, then chimes in and dramatically delivers a line from the control booth.

“@edwina_b is back and the Commonwealth Games are on so there is no better reason to do a team warm up,” the post’s caption reads.

The video is a direct recreation of a cold open from Brooklyn Nine-Nine where detective Jake Peralta, played by Andy Samberg, asks members of a police lineup to sing the ‘90s track.

The scene has racked up over 28 million views on YouTube and has been re-enacted countless times by fans of the series.

‘Best thing I’ve seen in ages’

After the Sunrise skit was posted on social media, a number of followers took to the comments to applaud the team’s efforts.

“That is sooo good!! What talent you guys have!” Sunrise’s sports reporter Mark Beretta, who is currently in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games, wrote.

“This is the best thing I’ve seen in ages!” another added, followed by someone else who said, “What a great start to the morning”.

“This is amazing,” a different user shared, while another joked, “Chills, literal chills”.

“Whoever's working the Sunrise social media is killing it! Would love to see more behind the scenes at Brekkie Central,” one fan remarked.

Edwina’s return

Edwina officially made her return to Sunrise on Monday morning after welcoming her son Thomas in March.

The mother-of-two, who announced her pregnancy on-air in August last year and went on maternity leave in January, said it was a great feeling being back at the desk.

“It’s been such a lovely five months,” she shared. “We’ve had such a lovely time as a family unit, so it was a bit sad to leave them at home, but also lovely to come back to work.”
