Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew farewelled before maternity leave

With the arrival of baby number two less than a month away, Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew has bid farewell to her breakfast TV gig and kicked off maternity leave.

The 38-year-old entertainment presenter shared a fond goodbye with her Sunrise co-hosts David Koch, Mark Beretta and Nat Barr on Friday morning.

As she confirmed her due date — February 21st — a crew member presented Eddy with a huge bunch of flowers to mark the occasion.

She then revealed that she'd ditched her high heels in favour of comfy flat shoes on her final day on set, which got a knowing nod from fellow mum Nat.

Kochie went on to ask if Eddy's husband, writer Neil Varcoe was 'prepared' to welcome their second child after 'getting lost' on the way to the hospital when their two-year-old daughter Molly was born.

To her co-hosts' dismay, Eddy admitted that she would be giving birth at a different hospital this time around meaning Neil has a whole new route to navigate.

"I know I've complicated the process!" she laughed. "We're going to have to do a run-through."

Eddy finished by thanking Sunrise fans for their 'lovely' well-wishes and revealing Molly's sweet preparations for her younger brother or sister.

"Molly has been changing her nappy on her dolly. Hopefully when the real thing arrives she'll be as excited," Eddy said.

Edwina later took to Instagram to share snaps from her final day, including a group pic with her 'work family' and a cheeky mirror selfie showcasing her baby bump.

"Goodbye work family @sunriseon7. Hello new addition to our family," she captioned the snaps.

Eddy's followers flooded the comments section with kind comments as she embarked on her parenthood journey for the second time.

"Will miss you on our screens Eddy! Best of luck," one wrote.

"All the best Eddy. You are such a delight and breath of fresh air," added another.

"Farewell @edwina_b and Goodluck with baby number 2," said a third.

It's been a busy few weeks for Eddy and her growing family. Just a few weeks ago, she celebrated her husband Neil Varcoe’s birthday as well as Molly's very first day at daycare.

And back in December, she whipped up a homemade Bluey cake for Molly's second birthday.

Back in August Edwina announced live on-air that she and Neil were expecting their second child together.

"In developing news, news that will be developing news, news that will be developing for the next six months, we will be having another baby," she said on Sunrise.

She also said that while the couple already knows the sex of the baby, they’ve decided to keep it secret for now.
