Sonia Kruger tipped to land exciting new gig in 2025: 'Back to her roots'
EXCLUSIVE: The TV star has recently signed a new contract with Channel Seven.
Following the news that Sonia Kruger will no longer host Big Brother Australia as the reality show moves to Network 10 in 2025, Channel Seven is rumoured to be offering the TV presenter an exciting new role next year. The Gold Logie winner, who currently hosts Dancing With The Stars and The Voice, is said to have re-signed with Seven and will take on a new gig which will be announced at the network’s upcoming Upfronts event.
An insider at Seven tells Yahoo Lifestyle that Sonia’s next role will be “something more to do with what we originally hired her for”. Meanwhile, a source close to the 59-year-old confirms that she will be “getting back to her roots and doing some ‘on location’ work” in 2025.
“Sonia is at her best when she can ad-lib. Giving her a microphone and getting real people to open up is a real skill set she can do effortlessly, so I think it's a waste not to get her out there again in that sort of capacity,” they share. “I think Sonia wants more and rightfully so.”

Another TV insider tells us that viewers can expect Sonia’s next role with Seven to be “something meatier than just hosting another glossy reality show”.
“They would hardly just stick her into their breakfast formats, but it would make sense for the network to rival A Current Affair with their own tabloid news program,” they detail. “Getting something together like Today Tonight up again would be a big exercise. It’s expensive to get staff in every city, but if you had someone with the appeal of Sonia I think it would be worth exploring.
“When Seven bought Kruger back from Channel Nine in 2020 and offered her a three-year contract, they really wanted to find her a role that showcased her journalist side and Big Brother and Dancing With The Stars weren’t even on the cards. They had actually presented her with the idea of being an Olympics correspondent, but Covid really threw a spanner in the works when she came on board and the next four years panned out to be quite different for her.”
Sonia Kruger’s next gig, as well as Channel Seven’s plans for 2025, is set to be revealed at the network’s annual Upfronts event next month.
Sonia Kruger rumoured to host The Golden Bachelor
This comes shortly after rumours circulated that Channel Nine had been exploring the possibility of getting Sonia Kruger to host the highly-anticipated Australian version of The Golden Bachelor in 2025.
“Channel Nine loved working with Sonia and everyone would welcome her back with open arms. There is a real bidding war which will see two networks keen to lock her services down in the new year,” a source told Yahoo Lifestyle last month.
Samantha Armytage is currently tipped to host the reality series, which is a spin-off of the popular dating franchise starring senior citizens finding love.

After TV Blackbox reported last month that Nine would be announcing The Golden Bachelor at its Upfronts in October, entertainment journalist Peter Ford named the former Farmer Wants A Wife presenter as the frontrunner for the hosting role.
“If I was a betting man I’d put money on @sam_armytage,” he wrote on X. “She’s now a free agent after leaving 7 and has been clear she was interested in new opportunities.”
