Big Brother set to return in 2025 with major changes and brand new host
A new host is taking over from Sonia Kruger as the show swaps networks for the third time.
After airing on Seven for the past four years, it’s been announced that Big Brother Australia will return to its original home on Channel 10 in 2025. The network shared the exciting news at its annual Upfront event on Monday, revealing that the series will undergo a complete refresh.
Not only will filming take place in a brand new house with a fresh group of housemates, but it will also revert to being live. Audiences can expect live nominations and live evictions, with the network promising “the authentic, OG show you fell in love with all those years ago”.

It’s also been announced that Mel Tracina will take on the role of host for Big Brother Australia, following in the footsteps of Gretel Killeen and Sonia Kruger for the upcoming sixteenth season. The radio star and TV personality, 34, is best known for her role as the cultural correspondent on Channel 10’s comedy panel show The Cheap Seats.
“I was one of the millions of Aussies captivated by Big Brother when it launched on Channel 10 in the early noughties,” she said in a statement from the network. “The show has such a loyal and passionate fan base, and I am excited to help bring back the show's original spirit (minus the flip phones and bum dancing).”
Big Brother Australia first premiered on Channel 10 in 2001 and ran for nine seasons (including a celebrity version) until 2008 when it went on a four-year hiatus. It was then picked up by Channel Nine who aired three seasons, before moving to Channel Seven in 2020.
The most recent season of Big Brother Australia aired in November last year, premiering to just 274,000 viewers and eventually moving to a later timeslot.
Major shows returning in 2025
In addition to Big Brother’s return, Channel 10 also announced that next year’s season of MasterChef Australia will be titled MasterChef: Back To Win and will feature a cast of fan-favourite contestants who previously missed out on the trophy.
The cooking competition previously aired a Back To Win series in 2020 where Emelia Jackson took out the title, and also featured returning contestants in MasterChef: Fans & Favourites where Billie McKay became the show’s first two-time winner.
Another huge reality TV announcement from the network is that Australian Survivor will be returning with two seasons. In addition to Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn II, Channel 10 will air Survivor: Australia v The World where some of Australia’s most celebrated players will go up against players from Survivor South Africa, Norway, New Zealand, and the US franchise.
The Australian group of contestants will include George Mladenov, Shonee Bowtell and Kirby Bentley, while the returning players from the US include Parvati Shallow, Cirie Fields, and two-time winner Tony Vlachos.
