MKR contestant responds to angry fans after 'cruel' elimination detail

Fans were left stunned by Tuesday night's shock double elimination on My Kitchen Rules, which saw brother and sister duo Danny and Sonia sent home along with 'young mums' Cassie and Ash. The surprising twist marked a first for MKR, as explained by judge Colin Fassnidge at the start of the dinner at the Instant Kitchen of 'Fussy Friends' Mike and Pete.

Colin told the dinner guests that there was a good reason they had been drilling into the contestants that their place on the leaderboard was important and that they would soon find out why, before later announcing that not one, but two teams would be sent packing. Sadly, with fan favourites Danny and Sonia last on the scoreboard, they were told that their time in the competition had come to an end.

Not only were viewers of the show sad to see the popular duo leave, but they took to social media to slam the brutal way they were eliminated, pointing out that they didn't even get to find out what the judges had scored Mike and Pete.

MKR viewers hit out at 'cruel' treatment of team

"Surely they could have done the eliminations after the scoring," one viewer wrote on Facebook. "Danny and Sonia ate at the table and scored each dish like every other team. Don’t see why they couldn’t have stayed for the final results."

"That was not nice. They should have been there to hear the scores," someone replied while another described the moment as "awkward."

"I would've thought they'd let Danny and Sonia stay to the end of the night," someone else suggested.

"I thought it was terrible the way they were treated," yet another person said. "They were dismissed as if they weren’t part of the teams, shame MKR. Would have been proper to allow them to stay to the end. Such a wonderful couple but poorly treated."

Other comments from fans flooded in with people calling the development "brutal", "cruel", "rude" and "severe."

The sentiment was much the same on X viewers sharing their distaste for how the brother and sister had been kicked to the curb.

"What? They leave then and there, bit rude," was one comment.

"God damn, that was harsh," was another.

"Not even allowed to see the scores," another unimpressed fan wrote.

Sonia reveals the truth about savage elimination

There were several fans who suggested that perhaps Danny and Sonia HAD in fact been able to say goodbye to their castmates and that their exit hadn't been quite as savage as it seemed.

"It was all for the show. I'm pretty sure when filming finished they got to say their goodbyes," one person wrote on Facebook.

However, Sonia herself was quick to shut that theory down, replying, "Hi, Sonia here. Nope, we had to leave immediately. We had no idea who would be leaving with us. There was literally an Uber waiting. It’s all good, I was happy to get back to my family xx Thanks for all the love guys."
