The New Kroger Freezer Find I Buy Every Time I Go—It's Delicious
This frozen pizza is made in Italy (and it tastes like it!).

I probably eat pizza once a week, but I could eat pizza daily. With all of the different styles and topping possibilities, not to mention how delicious it is, I never get tired of it. It’s the perfect food!
And while I love really good pizza from a wood-burning oven, I’m also a pizza opportunist. I am not above eating frozen pizza—in fact, I always have at least one in my freezer, ready for an emergency meal. Lucky for me, the last few years have seen an uptick in frozen pizza quality and options. Gone are the days of picking between Totino’s, DiGiorno, and Red Baron. Now you can get Italian-made pizza straight from the grocery store to your freezer.
Nowhere is this more apparent than at Kroger (or another store that carries Kroger products, like Ralph’s or Vons). The grocery store has worked hard to offer more gourmet-style products as a part of its Private Selection house brand, including its frozen pizzas. A couple of new options, released last year, are literally made in Italy with Italian ingredients. And I am here to tell you that its Margherita pizza is legitimately delicious.

Private Selection Margherita Pizza
Price: $7.99
Why I Love It: Made in Italy, this pizza has a perfectly chewy, charred crust, a fresh-tasting sauce, and flavorful toppings. It's the perfect size for two, and it cooks in minutes, making it faster (and cheaper) than delivery.
Why I Love Kroger’s Margherita Neapolitan-Style Pizza
First and foremost, I must mention this pizza's convenience. It lives in your freezer until the craving strikes, and then it’s ready in minutes, perfectly cooked. Way faster than Domino’s!
Oh, and this pizza tastes much better than Domino’s. The crust is perfect—chewy and charred but light and airy. The sauce tastes like fresh tomatoes—a rare treat with store-bought pizza—and the fresh mozzarella is perfectly melty. I love the fresh basil and the partially dried tomatoes on top, which don’t make the pizza soggy and add flavor and texture without being tough.
It’s an ideal size for me and my husband—we can polish it off all on our own when it’s hot and crisp. It costs $7.99, a bargain for an authentic Neapolitan pizza that tastes like it was just made.
You can add toppings if you like, such as pepperoni, sausage, peppers, and more. But unlike most Margherita pizzas, I do not find this pizza boring. The sauce, cheese, tomatoes, and basil on top add tons of flavor, making it tasty all on its own. A little fresh green salad on the side makes it a nice rounded meal, but only if you have the energy to throw one together.
Private Selection Neapolitan-style frozen pizza is also available in a spicy salami, nduja, and burrata variation, which is tasty but very cheesy and meaty. I prefer the freshness of the Margherita, and I’ll be keeping this Kroger frozen pizza in my freezer from now on for last-minute meals.
