Angelina Jolie Embraces Minimalism in Backless Silk Dress for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Angelina Jolie opted for simple elegance on the Santa Barbara International Film Festival red carpet on Wednesday in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Oscar-winning actress was honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award, the highest honor presented at the film festival.

For the special occasion, Jolie wore a silk slipdress with a backless silhouette. The floor-length dress featured pockets along with a square neckline and thin straps in a cream-white tone. The backless detail of the frock included draped fabric that perfectly framed the “Maria” star’s intricate tattoos.

Jolie paired the dress with pointed-toe black shoes. While on the red carpet, Jolie also wore a white jacket, which draped over her shoulders and featured soft lapels.

As for her glam and accessories, Jolie continued her minimalist theme. She opted for few jewelry pieces, save for a pair of stud earrings. The actress’ makeup and hair also tailored to the minimalist approach. Her brunette hair with blond highlights was worn straight and down with a middle part. Her makeup included bold brows, a thickly lined eye and a glossy lip.

Jolie regularly gravitates toward simple elegance and variations on quiet luxury. During her time promoting the film “Maria,” in which the Oscar winner stars as legendary opera singer Maria Callas, the actress wore pieces by such designers as Tamara Ralph — the designer supplied a custom gown for Jolie to wear at the “Maria” premiere at Venice Film Festival in August 2024.

Jolie previously styled another satin dress with an over-the-shoulder cape at the AFI Festival in Los Angeles last October. The actress wore a sleeveless satin dress in a champagne tone, pairing it with a black cape, jeweled dangle earrings and metallic pumps.

Along with her 2024-25 simple and elegant style streak, Jolie expanded her reach to beauty as the face of Tom Ford Beauty’s Runway Lip Color. The campaign debuted in November 2024 and featured Jolie sporting the Scarlet Rouge lip color.
