Aussies were over the moon when it was announced that the popular US fast food chain Wendy's was opening domestically. Hundreds of customers lined up to be the first to eat at the cult burger joint in Surfer's Paradise on January 15th, with several fans sharing footage from inside the flagship store.

While some fans of the chain lamented the lack of certain items that feature on the American menu, others raved about the offering and started pondering which US staple might appear on our shores next.

However, less than one month after its grand opening, Wendy's Australia has announced it will be temporarily closing its doors as it needs to restock.

"Aussies - you’re ravenous!" a post on Wendy's social media accounts reads. "BRB I’m taking a beat to restock your favourite fresh, never frozen ingredients and will be open and ready to serve you soon - stay tuned for updates!"

The post has already met with confusion and annoyance from customers, one of which mentioned on Instagram that they were already in the process of driving down from Brisbane to try the food at the burger joint.

"What does this mean? Are you closed? Or are you still operating?," another patron enquired while someone else asked, "Closed for today, or longer?".

"This is weird," another wrote.

"Unbelievable," added a third.

"F**k out of business after a few weeks," someone else wrote while another reasoned, "The lineups at that shop have been nearly non-stop guys .. it's not easy to keep up with while relying on suppliers."

"That's not a good sign that a new fast food restaurant can't even stay open every day," someone else commented.

A comment from Wendy's on their Instagram suggests they will be open later today but for their customers to keep an eye out for updates.

Yahoo Lifestyle has reached out to Wendy's to find out when they plan to re-open.

The news of the chain's temporary closure comes after a grand opening where some people lined up from the early hours of the morning to be the first to try the new takeaway joint.

Several fans of the burger restaurant expressed their disappointment that the Aussie menu differs so much from the US version, sharing their frustrations online.

"What's the point if they don't have the same food as America?" one disgruntled person asked.

SHOP:

"As an American living in Australia... this is just another hamburger place that won't last here lol," another said. "A lot of the popular Wendy's things aren't even on this menu."

"They have half-a**ed the menu for Australia," another person raged. "If they don’t have a better selection, none of the other stores will be worried about them because they won’t be competition."

Notably absent on the Aussie menu are the chicken nuggets - which come in both the crispy and spicy variety in the US. Other people said they were dismayed to see that there didn't appear to be any vegetarian options like the Mushroom Melt on the menu.

Despite these issues, other fans of the chain raved about the burgers and expressed their excitement that the fast-food giant was finally in Australia.
