Hinge's new feature will filter out all the beige flags from your life: 'Best thing they’ve ever done'

Good news singles... if you've ever wanted to filter out phrases like 'don't take yourself too seriously', today is your lucky day.

Dating app Hinge has rolled out a brand new feature that's set to separate the beige flags from the green flags in your dating life, introducing the 'hidden words' safety feature.

While the aim of the feature is meant to help users set boundaries on the app and eliminate negative dating patterns, many are also seeing it as an opportunity to start filtering out the overused phrases and words all single people are starting to tire of.

You know the drill: you log into the apps again, only to be greeted by someone who's 'here for a good time, not a long time' and who wants someone who doesn't take themselves 'too seriously', whatever that even means.

So while the hidden words feature is supposed to help daters feel less burned out by reducing the number of exchanges that could negatively impact their dating experience, some users can't help themselves: they're on a mission to eliminate all beige flags and are choosing their hidden words with great glee.

On X, one user tweeted their version of hidden words, praising Hinge for the new rollout. "The new Hidden Words feature on Hinge is the best thing they’ve ever done," the person said, before sharing a screenshot of their new muted words, including 'roast', 'travel more', 'long walks', 'pineapple on pizza', and everyone's fave word... 'banter'.

Other users also tweeted more hidden words, with Sunday roast being a very popular one to hide (who knew people loved to reference them so much?!).

And another user uploaded their queer edition, which included hiding the words 'straight', 'Lady Gaga', 'Taylor Swift' and love language reference, 'physical touch'.

Hinge's Love & Connection Expert Moe Ari Brown said the new feature was meant to enhance dating experiences for all users on the app.

"Instead of opening their phone and experiencing unwanted initial interactions, this tool can help daters focus only on messages aligned with their dating goals," they said.

"Most people would welcome the ability to prevent incoming comments that might negatively impact their dating experience from getting to them in the first place. This kind of message can feel disappointing or hurtful. Setting boundaries around what types of comments you receive can help reduce these kinds of harms in the dating process and ultimately leave daters feeling more confident that it will be something positive when they receive a new notification."
