Aussies' bedroom icks revealed and it's time to throw out your yellow pillow

Bumble Australia has released data on what single Aussies deem their biggest bedroom icks, and it's time to clean up after yourselves.

If you're single and ready to mingle, there's a chance you've already figured out your ick list: maybe it's someone chewing with their mouth open. Maybe it's watching someone run for the bus with their backpack on. Maybe you realised your first date had a giant Jordan Peterson tattoo and you simply couldn't get past it.

OK, maybe I'm just projecting again.

In case you're not familiar with it, the concept of an ick list has been around for a while — an ick occurs when someone you're romantically interested in displays a behaviour you consider a turn-off.

While ick lists have gained popularity over the years, it's most often referred to when talking about early romantic connections and first dates. But what about bedroom ick lists?

Dating app Bumble Australia has released some very interesting research about single Australians ick lists when it comes to rendezvousing under the sheets, and ladies and gents: if you're reading this and still have your yellow pillow, it's time to say goodbye and chuck it out.

When it came to people's biggest icks, they said stains on the bedding and the yellow pillow were the hardest to get past, with 77% of women not able to forgive some bedsheet stains.

While remnants of food or drink by the bed and dirty clothes were also a turn-off, 39% of people said having a mirror on the ceiling would be a no-no, and 36% of people also agreed having no bed frame or mattress would give them the ick.

47% of women, and 33% of people in total, said spotting lube on the bedside table would also be a turn-off and as a reminder to clean up your empty cups, 34% of people deemed kitchenware taking up a new home in the bedroom as a big yuck.

OK, so what do Aussie singles like then other than complaining?

Great question.

70% agreed that a tidy room is a massive turn-on and the smell of fresh sheets could lead them to wanting to get hot and heavy. 50% of women deemed having a fan or air conditioning as a hot trait, and 40% of people also said having soft lighting was a tick instead of an ick.

So everyone: clean your room, head to Kmart and buy some fairy lights, wash your sheets and maybe this Valentine's Day you won't be crying into your tub of Halo Top.
