Aussie star's outburst after John Krasinski named 'Sexiest Man Alive' 2024: 'Biggest lie'

Radio host Kyle Sandilands has labelled People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ competition the “biggest lie ever” after it was announced that John Krasinski had won the title for 2024. The Office actor is the 40th man to receive the honour, beating out frontrunners and rising stars Glen Powell, Jeremy Allen White and Paul Mescal.

Speaking about the news on The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Thursday morning, Kyle told his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson he didn’t think the award was a “big deal” because it isn’t actually determined by a public vote.

“You know, the way people get on these lists is not because they're the most beautiful. It's because their agents hustle the magazines, like ‘If you do this, we'll give you access’,” he said. “It’s all bulls**t and everyone gets caught up in it. It's a lie. It's the biggest lie ever.”

While he acknowledged John is a “rugged sort of handsome fella”, he said he was surprised by who else had made People’s list this year.

“I’ve noticed that the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ should be renamed ‘The Grossest Gronk’ because there’s some traditionally not good looking guys all through this People [issue],” he remarked. “I suppose beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, after all, I am even married.”

Who is John Krasinski?

In addition to playing Jim Halpert on The Office from 2005 to 2013, John Krasinski is best known for directing, co-writing and co-starring in the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place. He went on to write and direct the sequel in 2020 and recently wrote, produced and directed the fantasy comedy film If.

John has also appeared in the romantic comedies It’s Complicated, Something Borrowed and Aloha, and played the title character in the thriller series Jack Ryan from 2018 to 2023.

He has been married to British actress Emily Blunt since 2010 and they share two daughters.

After being announced as People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for 2024, John joked that the title would have a negative effect on his home life.

“I do think it’s going to make me do more household chores, but I’m willing to take the cons with the pros, to be honest with you,” he told People. “I think after the cover comes out, [Emily] will be like, ‘All right, that means you’re going to really earn it here at home’.”

People began bestowing famous men with the title ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 1985 when Mel Gibson received the honour. The award is typically given to an entertainer aged between 27 and 59, with John F. Kennedy Jr. and David Beckham being the only non-entertainers to have won the accolade.
