Aussie mum's bizarre recipe hack shocks followers: 'Surprised by how good it was'
The recipe has garnered mixed reactions online.
An Aussie family food blogger has turned heads among her followers with a rather unconventional hack for roasting meat. "Ever tried cooking silverside in Coca-Cola?" she asked on her Facebook page, popular for its mix of recipes and family travel tips.
Explaining her motivation, she said, "I found a post online about how good it was so naturally, I had to try it." What followed was an unexpected discovery. "I was surprised by how good it was," she said, confirming she'll definitely be cooking it like that again.

The process, as she described it, was simple enough—just put the meat in the slow cooker with 2L of Coke and let it cook for hours.
"I just had to get past the fact it was cooking it in a bottle of Coca-Cola," she laughed. "If you haven't tried it, it's definitely worth giving it a go! Apparently you can cook it in ginger beer and lemonade too."
Mixed reactions
While a few sceptics voiced doubts, with one even calling it "disgusting," the majority of followers responded with curiosity and enthusiasm, with some even saying they've tried it themselves.
"I always use ginger ale, but I suppose it's kind of the same," one person noted, with others chiming in to agree. "Ginger ale is the best!" said one, while another confessed, "haven't tried coke, but might give it a go!"
"Pickled pork cooked in Coke is the bomb! It comes out tasting just like honey baked ham!" another follower shared.
However, not everyone was immediately sold. "I wouldn't mind trying Coke, but I'll have to get my head around that first," one cautious commenter remarked.
Adding to the discussion, another follower shared their twist: "We use a can of Coke or Bourbon," they revealed, suggesting a unique flavour profile.
"I'm definitely going to give Coke a try next time. Dark and sweet is my flavour," another enthusiastic follower declared.
"Ribs in cola is nice too!" someone else suggested.

And for those who thought cooking meat in Coke was pure madness, there's a surprising endorsement from none other than Nigella Lawson herself. The culinary queen has her own recipe for ham cooked in Coca-Cola.
"Only those who have never tried this raise an eyebrow at the idea," Lawson says of the recipe. "Don't hesitate, don't be anxious: this really works. No one who cooks it, cooks it just once: it always earns a place in every repertoire."
