Victoria's Secret fans outraged over 'disrespectful' detail in fashion show: 'Big mistake'
The Victoria's Secret fashion show made its return this week and viewers were angry about one element in particular.
Victoria's Secret - the American lingerie brand known for catapulting supermodels like Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen into the global spotlight - made its return to the runway this week, following a 6-year hiatus. The pause in hosting its annual fashion show followed widespread backlash after the brand faced criticism for its lack of body inclusivity, for being out of touch with the times and for alleged abusive behaviour towards its models.
In a show streamed on Amazon Prime Video, VS made a comeback - with performances from Lisa, Tyla, and Cher wowing the crowd. And, of course, the show featured several of the 'OG Victoria's Secret models, such as Banks, Alessandra Ambrosio and Candice Swanepoel along with Irina Shayk, Doutzen Kroes, Taylor Hill and Josephine Skriver.
OG model Adriana Lima also took to the runway, rocking a daring and strappy lingerie set complete with signature angel wings (which we are assured are no longer made of real feathers.)
While fans of Victoria's Secret were thrilled to see the return of some of their favourite faces, they did take issue with the decision to have Gigi Hadid open the show.

Hadid donned a pink belted one-piece with short shorts and a plunging neckline. The look was topped off with oversized diamond hoop earrings, gladiator-style heels and of course, a pair of wings. Although the supermodel looked absolutely incredible, hundreds of fans took to social media to express their frustration that she had been chosen to open the show.
Fans slam detail in Victoria's Secret show
"She wasn't the right choice for the opening at all!," one person wrote on Instagram. "She's maybe a good model but definitely not a good supermodel. It was really Adriana or Candice's right to be chosen for the opening of the show...Some professions cannot be bought with money."
"The disrespect. She is not iconic and not one of THE angels," another said.
"You had the OGs’ come back and didn’t have one of them open 🤔???," another perturbed viewer said.
"Ok. But Adriana Lima is better for the opening!," someone else said.
"Sorry Gigi but she should've opened the show Adriana's energy and walk is unmatchable she's the BEST tbh," was another comment.
The outrage continued with remarks such as:
"Adriana should have opened this show!! She is THE icon of Victoria's Secret 😮💨."
"Adriana, Alessandra, Isabeli, Candice did not have the recognition they deserved. Gigi didn’t deserve to have opened the show. The Icons were there and deserved the space!"
"She should have opened the show!! I love Gigi but she's not an Iconic angel as Adriana, Alessandra or Candice."
"Adriana should have opened the show! Big mistake VS!"
"She [Adriana] is the real icon of @victoriassecret I don't understand why she didn’t open the show or even one section. Lack of respect to the angels Adriana, Candice, Behati…Gigi and Bella don’t represent the VS magic!!!"

Why was Bradley Cooper absent from the Victoria's Secret show?
Meanwhile, Hadid's partner Bradley Cooper was noticeably absent from the show - in which his ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk also featured.
Hadid explained that her partner of over a year was "watching from home."
"He is on dad duty but so supportive,” the model told Entertainment Tonight.
Cooper shares daughter Lea de Seine, 7, with Shayk, who he dated from 2015 until 2019. The exes have remained on good terms and are regularly seen hanging out, including during a sweet family vacation to Italy in August 2023.
