Days after he had urged his dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, to seek help for unspecified issues on social media, Trace Cyrus let his followers know that Billy Ray didn’t take kindly to his plea—and claimed he had even threatened him with legal action.

“Dad my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but l don’t want to put your business out there like that,” Trace wrote in a follow-up post on Saturday that, you know, sort of did put that “business” out there.

“For you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment I can assure you,” he continued.

“You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not,” the singer added.

Alongside his new statement, Trace posted several Instagram stories with throwback photos showing happier times with his family.

This latest bout of Cyrus drama began after Trace, who was adopted as a child by Billy Ray during the country music icon’s marriage to his mother, Tish Cyrus, addressed his father’s “trainwreck” performance at Donald Trump’s inaugural Liberty Ball.

“I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me,” Trace wrote.

“You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point. Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away,” he added, seemingly referring to Brandi, Miley and Noah Cyrus.

Trace’s social media appeal to his dad was met with radio silence (at least publicly) by his sisters, though his younger brother Braison Cyrus declared that Billy Ray was “happy” and “healthy” as part of an announcement that they had collaborated on a forthcoming album together.

“I’ve spent this past year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” People quoted Braison saying in a statement about the new music. “I’ve heard stories, jokes and songs that I don’t think anyone else has. It’s an opportunity to tell my dad’s story through music and I’m fortunate to be able to take it.”

Billy Ray’s most recent ex-wife, Firerose, offered a different perspective: “What’s being seen in public now reflects much of what I experienced in private during our relationship,” she told Page Six earlier this week.
