The Block cast 'furious' after Channel Nine's big move: 'Gloves are off'

EXCLUSIVE: Several contestants are frustrated with the network as the reality show starts airing overseas.

While it’s been two months since season nineteen of The Block finished airing on TV in Australia, international audiences are only now starting to tune into the drama.

The renovation reality show has recently been picked up in New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom and continues to be sold in other countries around the world.

An insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that a handful of cast members are “furious” that the show has begun to stream worldwide, especially because they weren’t given a heads-up by Channel Nine.

“They thought they could return to their normal lives and put the show's devastating result behind them but their social media is still going off with hate and negative comments,” our source shares.

“No one had notified the cast which has left them reliving all the drama again and again.”

The biggest difference between when the show first aired in Australia versus now is that the contestants’ social media pages are no longer being monitored by Channel Nine.

Not only does this mean comments are now open on their profiles, but it also means the contestants can respond to any backlash they may receive.

Kristy Beames, who was portrayed as a ‘villain’ on the show and often found herself in the centre of the drama, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she won't be holding back on her replies to the haters.

“There are five sides of a story and what audiences saw wasn't always accurate or correct,” she says. “I was nice when it played in Australia but the gloves are off. Game on moles!”

Despite providing most of the drama this season and therefore boosting the ratings for Channel Nine, House 2’s Leah and Ash Milton and House 3’s Kristy and Brett Beames left the show facing a different reality to their co-stars.

As well as receiving hate on social media, Kristy and Brett only made a profit of $65,000 at their auction. This is compared to House 4’s Steph and Gian Ottavio who received $1.75 million, and House 5’s Eliza and Liberty Paschke who made $1.05 million.

Meanwhile, Leah and Ash are yet to sell their property, with their real estate agent revealing last month that they’ve commenced a ‘traditional’ campaign in the hopes of selling in early 2024.

As none of the contestants have received their prize money yet, this may determine whether they decide to play nice with Channel Nine as the show continues to roll out overseas.

For Leah and Ash who won nothing, however, there’s little reason for them to stay silent towards any criticism that may come their way.
