The Block stars reveal truth about current cast dynamic after 'toxic' season
EXCLUSIVE: Here’s where the season 19 cast stand with one another post-auction.
From Leah and Kristy’s friendship rollercoaster to Leslie and Steph’s gnome swap, this year’s season of The Block was arguably the most dramatic season in the history of the reality show.
Not only were the teams going head-to-head during filming, which many viewers described as “toxic”, but they were also criticising one another during post-show interviews.
Almost two months on from when the final episode aired, two teams have now opened up to Yahoo Lifestyle about what it was like reuniting with everyone towards the end of the season and whether there is still any animosity amongst the cast.
Kyle and Leslie admit that it was “quite awkward” filming the Open For Inspections episode in October while there was drama playing out on the show.
“It was this awkward thing of watching what had been said and done and there was still this very weird tension between everyone,” Leslie details.

However, she says everyone let go of the drama when they reunited just a few weeks later to film the auction because the stakes suddenly became very real.
“You kind of went, that was in that realm that we were living in and we're not [in that now] because this is real life,” she explains. “And you realise at that moment that we're going to walk away with something or nothing and this is real life now.
“So everyone kind of just put it aside on that day and sort of left it like that, essentially. The girls [Eliza and Liberty] and Kristy and Brett had a great chat that day, they both wished that each other would go well and sort of called a truce, and it was really lovely.”
Kyle also shares that if an official cast reunion were to ever take place, he does not doubt that everyone would be on board.
“It's a situation now where people probably aren’t talking as often to everyone, but I think it's gotten to a stage where you go, this is the group that we did this with and this is the experience that we had and I don't think anyone would be opposed to meeting up in in the future,” he remarks.
'Everyone is amicable'
Meanwhile, winners Steph and Gian tell Yahoo Lifestyle that the final episode of the season was a perfect reflection of how the cast feels about one another now.
“We all wanted everyone to do well and that was quite clear in the reserve meeting,” Gian says. “I think the Australian public would have been expecting forks to be thrown and wine to be thrown at each other, but that wasn't the case.
“Everyone is amicable. There’s not this hostility between cast members, and that's genuine. That's how I felt even on auction day. Yes, we had such a great result, but we wanted everyone to continue off the back of that success because everyone deserved to make a lot of money given what they put themselves through.”
Steph adds that she doesn’t take offence to anything negative that was said about her during filming because she understands it was a high-pressure environment, and everything is “more than fine” between herself and her fellow contestants.
“We're quite happy to speak to all of the cast now and we wish them nothing but the best in the future, genuinely,” she continues.
“We obviously speak to the girls quite often because we're in Sydney and they’re in Melbourne, we go up and down both of us quite a bit. We'd love to go to Perth, I have never been and want to go see Kyle and Leslie there, and of course Adelaide and Queensland.”
