Sunrise's Sam Mac opens up about 'scary' life change: 'Challenging'

Earlier this year, Sunrise star Sam Mac and his girlfriend Rebecca James announced that they are expecting their first child together.

The TV weather presenter has now shared details about his personal life and how he’s feeling before he becomes a father in September.

Chatting with Yahoo Lifestyle on the Logies red carpet on Sunday, Sam said that “everything is going great” at the moment for himself and his partner.

“Baby on the way, final trimester,” he shared. “It’s scary, but anyone who’s been through that knows that.

“And juggling that with my travel is challenging, but that’s part of the gig. So yeah, I’m in a good place, I’m really happy.”

Sam and Rebecca have been dating since 2020 and revealed last October that they had bought a home in Sydney’s Inner West together.

Sam also remarked that this year’s Logie Awards, which was the first ceremony to take place after a two-year hiatus, felt like “toolies”.

“People are a bit old for schoolies, we’re on the Gold Coast, there’s alcohol involved,” he joked. “But I think it’s fun. It feels like a reunion. It’s been a long time, literally, between drinks.

“This is all we have for our industry, so we should enjoy it and embrace it and congratulate people and celebrate people, not just on camera but behind the scenes as well. We should make it a night of celebration, so it’s exciting.”

Breakfast TV rivals

Sam ended up causing quite a stir at the Logies when he presented the award for Most Outstanding Reality Show alongside his morning TV rival, Allison Langdon.

The Channel Seven star made a savage comment about Today’s recent lacklustre ratings after ABC News Breakfast beat them for the first week in 13 years last month.

“Hello to our rival breakfast show, The Today Show, possibly our biggest rivals behind the ABC," Sam said with the audience groaning and Ally looking uncomfortable.

Sam also made a dig at her co-host Karl Stefanovic not being onstage to present the award, joking that he was glad there are “no egos on breakfast TV anymore”.
