Sunrise star Sam Mac surprises family and Dr Chris Brown with big baby news
Sunrise’s weather presenter Sam Mac has shared some very exciting news: he and girlfriend Rebecca James are expecting their first child together!
The morning TV star, 40, made the announcement on Instagram on Sunday when he shared a sweet photo of himself with his hand on Bec’s growing belly.
“Wowsers! Mini Mac coming soon & Bec just can’t wipe the joy off her face,” Sam wrote alongside the snap which sees him grinning ecstatically while Bec throws him some side eye.
He also shared a video of the couple surprising their family with the news as well as a screenshot of a rather shocked looking Dr Chris Brown after he told him on FaceTime.
"The split second we showed @drchrisbrown the scan on FaceTime," he captioned the shot, "Clearly my friends have complete faith & confidence in my ability to be a dad. #DaddyMac".
Sam's parents looked equally shocked when they heard the news, with his dad joking that he was expecting an engagement ring instead.

Baby Mac is due in September, and the soon to be parents have already received warm congratulations from a number of Aussie celebs including Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch, who said, “Wow! Huge congrats guys. Welcome to the wonderful world of mummy’s and daddy’s!!” and “Wow. Congratulations. What wonderful news,” respectively.
The Morning Show’s Kylie Gillies said, “How wonderful. Seems like that fancy footwork of yours isn’t JUST limited to the dance floor, congrats,” while Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich, Brendan Fevola and Nova’s Ryan Fitzgerald, also sent their well wishes.
While speaking to Sam and Bec about the news on Sunrise on Monday morning, Kochie shocked them both by asking Bec, "First of all... why?"
"Why? Oh, gosh!" Bec laughed, before turning to Sam and adding, "That's a very good question! I think I need your help with this."
Monique Wright, who is currently co-hosting in Nat's stead, then asked, "How do you think that Sam Mac is going to go, sharing the entire limelight, or losing it?"
To which Bec replied, "I think he's going to struggle. Most of the time it's all about Sam!"
Sam and Bec have been dating since 2020 but only went public with their relationship in March last year.
They revealed last October that they had bought a home in Sydney's inner west together, saying, "We bought a bloody house! In Sydney! Already drinking our way through the pain as we calculate the stamp duty #Pray4Us".
