Sunrise's Sam Mac and Rebecca James welcome first child: 'I'm a dad!'

Sunrise star Sam Mac and his girlfriend Rebecca James have announced the birth of their first child together.

The TV weather presenter, who has been sharing regular updates with his followers about his partner’s pregnancy journey, took to Instagram on Sunday evening to share the sweet news.

“It’s a girl. Margot Grace McMillan,” he wrote.

“This is a love I never even knew existed. I’m overwhelmed & still processing it all right now. My girls. Wow.

“Rebecca was (& is) a warrior. I will never forget what she endured over the past 9 months, & particularly the past few days for our little family. Unbelievable strength. What a woman.”

The Channel Seven star went on to thank their obstetrician Dr Morris, who he called “the rock star of the delivery ward”, and his team.

“I’m the happiest man on the planet right now,” he continued. “If anyone needs me, my schedule for the next little while will be; looking in awe at Bec; looking in awe at Margot; crying & repeat. I’m a dad!”

‘It was brutal’

In a follow-up post, Sam uploaded a photo of Rebecca holding Margot just seven minutes after she was welcomed into the world and shared details about the “brutal” birth story.

“I watched Bec put her body on the line for 2 whole days,” he said. “She was poked, grabbed, injected, stretched & essentially thrown around until we got our baby out. It was brutal (the epidural didn’t work) but she gritted her teeth & found something I didn’t even know existed. She was always going to win.

“Just when it seemed like she couldn’t possibly give another push, she found another 50. Honestly remarkable.”

He also wrote about how “confronting” it was to see someone he loves enduring so much pain, but remarked that he would never forget Rebecca’s “calm determination and focus on what needed to be done for our little family”.

“Clearly it’s been a long day (I’m delirious) but I wanted to pay tribute to the Mums out there,” he added. “We can never truly understand or thank you enough. Warriors.

‘Wowsers!’

Sam first announced the exciting news of Rebecca’s pregnancy in April by sharing a photo of himself with his hand on her growing belly.

“Wowsers! Mini Mac coming soon & Bec just can’t wipe the joy off her face,” he wrote alongside the snap which sees him grinning ecstatically while Bec throws him some side-eye.

Last month he took part in a hilarious segment on Sunrise that saw him experience first-hand what going into labour is like.

Lyz Evans, from Women in Focus Physiotherapy, strapped some electrodes to Sam's stomach and slowly ramped up the pain while Rebecca watched on in delight.

“I can feel it, I can feel it!” he screamed, before yelling, “Women are superior!”.

Sam and Rebecca also hosted a baby shower with their family and friends last month, with Sam surprising his partner with the world’s largest Cheesymite scroll from Baker’s Delight.
