Rob Lowe on 'The Floor'Rob Lowe had already shot a great The Floor season 3 premiere — but then he got the call that his Fox game show was being slotted into the most coveted time slot in television: post Super Bowl.
"I was over the moon, super excited," the 9-1-1: Lone Star alum tells Entertainment Weekly of the surprise, as the action drama Rescue: Hi-Surf had originally been announced in that position. "I couldn't believe it because you're right, it is the most coveted piece of real estate in all of media, period. And that Fox chose our show is just...I mean, to put it mildly, a great pat on the back. But it's also representative of what this show is, and how people are embracing it."
Based on a Dutch game show of the same name, The Floor is described by Fox as such: "100 contestants face-off in duels on a giant grid of squares representing their personal field of trivia expertise. The winner of each timed head-to-head trivia battle takes control of their opponent’s square, while the loser goes home. Only one player will dominate the Floor and walk away with [$250,000 at the end of the season]."
And EW has an exclusive sneak peek at the first few minutes of The Floor's season 3 premiere, which Lowe says the team went back in to re-shoot and re-edit to make sure it was "epic" enough for their new time slot.

"We definitely went in and shot some very specific stuff once we knew we were getting the Super Bowl slot," Lowe explains. "What I love about producing are the big decisions you have to make on the fly. Like, 'Okay, we just got the Super Bowl time slot. How does that affect the episode?' So what we decided as producers with our partners at Fox was the most important thing was to get to the gameplay as quickly as possible. We're inheriting, I dunno, 30 million people. We want to make sure that those people go from watching the world's greatest game to playing the world's greatest game in the shortest amount of time. So we went back in and did some re-editing and I re-shot some stuff and re-voiced some stuff, because that was the calculated decision we made, which is super fun to do."
Lowe thinks The Floor makes for the perfect post-Super Bowl show because it appeals to as wide an audience as the NFL.

"I mean, I see it out in the world," he says."What I love about it is it's one of the few shows where entire families are watching together. I have people say, 'My 10-year-old loves The Floor.' I have people saying, 'My grandmother loves The Floor.' People of all ages, all walks of life, everybody loves playing this game. And I'm just psyched that millions and millions of new viewers are going to get addicted."
