A contestant on the forthcoming 18th season of Naked and Afraid is making series history, and as she puts it in a new clip, "that's pretty damn cool."

In the video, which PEOPLE debuted Friday, Mandy, the show's first double amputee, introduces herself to audiences of the survival challenge. "Ten years ago my life was changed forever,” Mandy says in the clip below. "I have died three times and came back from that."

According to a press release, after losing her legs a decade ago "in a devastating and tragic incident," Mandy became the first female bilateral amputee to reach Mount Kilimanjaro's summit and is now ready to take on the Everest of all survival challenges — 21 days in the remote jungle and dense rainforest of Belize on Naked and Afraid. Mandy, alongside her partner, Jonny, "will battle heavy rains, swarms of mosquitos, and toxic plants all in a bid to demonstrate that no challenge is too formidable to conquer."

In the preview clip, she can be heard saying "there is life after the unimaginable." She adds, "My motto is: Tell me that I can't and I will show you that I can. I get to be the first person on Naked and Afraid with no f----ing legs, and I think that's pretty damn cool.”

From the sweltering jungles in the Philippines to the rugged bluffs of the Midwest, each episode in season 18 will once again present unique environments and unprecedented obstacles as the duos are brought together with no water, no food, and no clothes.

Mandy and Jonny will kick things off in the premiere. In the second hour, fitness competitor Amanda joins forces with Ernie, a Naked and Afraid fan page moderator, as he puts his armchair survival expertise and military training to the ultimate test in a 14-day survival challenge.
