Yahoo Lifestyle Prabal Gurung Fall 2025: Looking for Comfort
Prabal Gurung took inspiration from current affairs for his fall 2025 collection, creating a lineup that centered on offering comfort during uncertain times.
“This is me looking at New York and looking at what’s happening right now — the cultural, political and social unrest — and feeling like we don’t know what’s going on,” he said. “It almost feels dystopian and I kept on thinking that what we’re really looking for is some form of comfort and intimacy, whether it’s through your friends or your partner or it’s a lover for one night — that’s what New York promises.”

Gurung leaned into knitwear and structured outerwear to reflect this yearning for comfort. There were cocoon-liked wool coats, vibrantly colored knit cardigans and an array of Mongolian shearling coats that brought a warmth to the overall collection.
The designer also delivered his own take on a menswear inspiration, which was unexpected yet an exciting addition to the collection. Gurung offered styles like undone dress shirts, structured blazers paired with his signature Dhoti pant and minidresses designed with tuxedo-like elements. The pieces were still innately Gurung and showed an enticing use of his design codes in other categories.
“I wanted a tactile feeling,” he said, highlighting the wool, washed leathers and knitwear. “I think there’s a sensuality to it and also, at this particular time where I am, it’s really taking comfort in knowing that intimacy and comfort, whether it’s through your friends or some random stranger, is available.”
Gurung also brought in new takes on his signature feminine looks and East-meets-West aesthetic. There were styles like a metallic plissé corset dress, an off-the-shoulder kurta and a plissé wrap top paired with a bubble skirt that brought an airy femininity that balanced the menswear styles.
The designer’s fall lineup was an exciting use of his signature codes in the menswear space and showed his ability to bring balance and intrigue to his inspirations.
