Yahoo Lifestyle Demi Moore Speaks Candidly About Ex Bruce Willis: 'For Me There Was Never a Question'
Though Demi Moore’s marriage with Bruce Willis ended a quarter-century ago, she stayed close with her ex-husband so that they could raise their three daughters together—and, more recently, so that she could support Willis amid his battle with dementia.
Moore, 62, spoke candidly about her relationship with the Die Hard star in a new interview with Variety. The actress, who is nominated for her first Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards for her starring role in 2024’s The Substance, has shared occasional updates about Willis and his health while promoting the movie over the last several months.
In the interview published on Feb. 6, Moore told the magazine that she, Willis, and their daughters “will always be a family, just in a different form.” The two were married in 1987 and welcomed the arrival of Rumer, who is now 36, one year later. They also had Scout, now 33, and Tallulah, now 31, before their divorce in 2000.
In addition to the children he shares with Moore, Willis, also shares two daughters—Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with Emma, an actress to whom he has been married since 2009.
Willis, 69, retired from acting in the spring of 2022 after he was diagnosed with aphasia, a condition in which it becomes difficult for a person to use or understand language to express themselves. In February 2023, a statement attributed to Willis’ wife, Moore and his five daughters announced that the Pulp Fiction actor had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
“For me, there was never a question,” Moore, who said she now visits Willis every week, told Variety when asked about her continued presence in his life. "I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love.”
The Ghost actress added that she hopes other people find it “encouraging” to see the way she and Willis have brought their families together. “There is life after divorce,” she said. “There is a way to co-parent with love.”
