McDonaghi reuniting with Searchlight Pictures, Blueprint Pictures and Film4, following their collaboration on 2022’s “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The dark comedy earned nine Oscar nominations including best picture, as well as directing and screenplay nods for McDonagh.
Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Anita Overland are producing “Wild Horse Nine,” written and directed by McDonagh. The logline for the film is being kept tightly under wraps, with additional casting to be announced. Production is set to begin next month in Rapa Nui, the indigenous name for Easter Island, a protected Chilean wildlife area known for its unrivaled cultural landscape and for being the most remote inhabited island on Earth.
The project originally launched at AFM in 2021, where Searchlight picked up the rights to the prestige package with Rockwell attached to star alongside Oscar Isaac and Christopher Walken. (Issac and Walken have since exited the project.) SVP of production Taylor Friedman and director of development and production Peter Spencer are overseeing the project for Searchlight, reporting to heads of production and development Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen.
Always a scene-stealer, Posey has been racking up choice film and TV roles recently. In addition to “The White Lotus,” which debuts its third season on Feb. 16, Posey guest starred on Amazon’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” series and nabbed her first Emmy nomination for the performance. She also starred opposite June Squibb in the critically-acclaimed indie “Thelma,” as well as Ari Aster’s “Beau is Afraid” opposite Joaquin Phoenix. On stage, Posey recently starred in The New Group’s off-Broadway production of “The Seagull/Woodstock, NY.” She is repped by CAA.
