‘Nosferatu’ Leads as U.K., Ireland January Box Office Revenue Hits $116.6 Million, Up 10% From 2024
The U.K. and Ireland box office kicked off 2025 with a robust £94.1 million ($116.6 million) in January, marking a 10% increase from January 2024’s £85.2 million ($105.6 million) and a 12% rise from January 2023, according to numbers from Comscore.
Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” led the month’s releases, haunting its way to $15.6 million, establishing itself as the sixth-highest-grossing horror film of all time in the region. The reimagining of the classic vampire tale surpassed “A Quiet Place” ($15.1 million) and is closing in on “The Final Destination” ($15.9 million).

Disney maintained its market dominance with a 30.8% share in January, claiming the next two spots on the chart. “Mufasa: The Lion King” roared to second place with $15 million for the month, bringing its total to $36.7 million, surpassing “The Little Mermaid’s” lifetime gross of $34 million.
James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” struck a chord at No. 3 with $11.3 million, becoming the director’s sixth-highest-grossing film in the territory, topping “Le Mans ’66” ($7.7 million) but still trailing “Knight & Day” ($12 million).
John Crowley’s romantic drama “We Live In Time” captured fourth place with $10.4 million, marking the helmer’s best showing to date, outpacing “Brooklyn” ($7.4 million). The film stands as the second-highest-grossing romantic drama in the past five years, trailing only “It Ends With Us” ($27.2 million).
“Sonic The Hedgehog 3” raced to fifth with $10 million for January, speeding to a $30.1 million cume, already outpacing the original’s $23.9 million lifetime total and tracking 10% behind “Sonic The Hedgehog 2’s” $33.5 million.
The musical sensation “Wicked” continued its enchanting run, conjuring an additional $6.1 million in January. Jon M. Chu’s adaptation has now amassed $75.3 million, becoming 2024’s highest-grossing release and the 27th biggest film of all time in the region, surpassing “Oppenheimer” ($74 million) and eyeing “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” ($75.6 million).
Disney’s “Moana 2” sailed to seventh place with $6 million, bringing its total voyage to $51.3 million.
Halina Reijn’s “Babygirl” landed at No. 8 with $5.1 million, outperforming recent 18-rated releases like “Terrifier 3” ($4.1 million) and “The Substance” ($4.7 million), while falling behind “Smile 2” ($8.1 million) and “Poor Things” ($9.4 million). The Robbie Williams biopic “Better Man” took ninth place with $4.7 million for January, reaching $8.3 million total, while Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” rounded out the top 10 with $3.6 million.
February’s slate kicks off with the Imax release of “Becoming Led Zeppelin” and historical drama “September 5,” followed by DreamWorks Animation’s “Dog Man” and action-comedy “Love Hurts.” Mid-month brings tentpole releases including “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy,” Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” and Valentine’s slasher “Heart Eyes.” The month closes with horror film “The Monkey,” anime finale “Attack On Titan: The Last Attack,” and Gia Coppola’s Pamela Anderson-starrer “The Last Showgirl.”
