MKR fans shocked to discover contestant's huge 'secret': 'All makes sense'
One contestant’s previous TV experience has been exposed on social media.
For years reality TV fans have questioned whether producers cast actors as contestants with the hope that they will stir the pot and create drama. It appears this may be true for the current season of My Kitchen Rules, as viewers have discovered that one contestant has an extensive acting résumé.
Lawrence Murphy, who is competing alongside his girlfriend Hannah Campbell, graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and has appeared in multiple TV ads, films and TV series over the past eight years. This includes roles in the popular BINGE series The Twelve, the war film Before Dawn alongside former Home and Away actor Stephen Peacocke, and the Channel Seven Logie-nominated miniseries The Claremont Murders.

The Switzerland-born star also co-founded his own production company Lazy Films and recently directed, wrote and starred in the horror film Lies Within Us, which is currently in pre-production.
Viewers weigh in on Lawrence's acting career
MKR fans only recently discovered Lawrence’s acting career when they spotted him in a popular TV advertisement and took to social media to discuss what this could mean.
“I think Lawrence is on an advert about responsible drinking. So does that mean he is an actor?” one person asked. “Yes, I thought it was him on that ad!” another replied, while a third said, “He was in an ad for cement stuff too! I reckon he is an actor placed in there to make drama!”.
“So he is out for his 15 mins in the spotlight, now it all makes sense… he is playing to the cameras to get airtime,” someone else said, followed by a different user who remarked, “Maybe he will get a villain role in a movie after this”.
While some people appeared to have an issue with the fact that Lawrence is an actor, others argued that it wasn’t that big of a deal.
“Most people on this show will have other jobs. Doing commercials is just a job. Now if he was a cook or chef in a restaurant it would have been problematic,” a fan commented, with another writing, “Many people can be actors as well as have other jobs”.
Who are Lawrence and Hannah on MKR?
Lawrence isn’t the only recognisable contestant on this year’s season of MKR, as his partner Hannah previously appeared on reality TV. The 30-year-old competed on Big Brother in 2020, which was the first season of the show to air on the Seven Network, and finished in tenth place.
“I thought if I can do Big Brother, being locked in a house with randoms, I could do MKR,” she told TV WEEK. “But let me tell you, MKR was 1000 times harder. I would do Big Brother every single year if I could. MKR, I don’t think I’d go back and do that!”

Lawrence and Hannah have been dating for almost two years and have said that it’s a “non-negotiable” that they will get engaged if they win MKR. She introduced him to the joy of cooking and now it's a shared passion between the two, with Hannah saying her cooking style runs on instinct while Lawrence's is about measuring to perfection.
The couple finished fourth in the first round of Instant Restaurants with a score of 68 points and have progressed to the second round.
