Miso Film to Adapt Norwegian Bestseller ‘The Cold Song’ for TV, Promotes Christian Rank to Managing Director and Producer
Miso Film Sweden is bringing Linn Ullmann’s acclaimed novel “The Cold Song” to the small screen in a six-episode series for SVT and Film i Väst. Directed by Mikael Marcimain, known for his work on “Blackwater” and “The Hunt for a Killer,” the series promises to be a gripping exploration of family dynamics and hidden secrets.
“The Cold Song” delves into the lives of Siri, a restaurant owner, and her novelist husband Jon, who juggle their busy lives in Stockholm with raising their two daughters. Each summer, they retreat to Siri’s childhood home on the Swedish West Coast, seeking tranquility. However, this summer takes a dark turn when their nanny, Mille, disappears during a party, forcing the family to confront buried secrets and guilt.

Filming is scheduled to begin on the picturesque Swedish West Coast in the fall of 2025 and conclude in the wintry atmosphere of Stockholm. The series will then debut on SVT in the fall of 2026 as part of the broadcaster’s New8 collaboration, announced in 2023, meaning it will also premiere across the Nordics, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Marcimain describes the series as a story about three generations of women and their fractured relationships: “‘ The Cold Song’ is a story about three generations of women, their fractured relationships and their struggle for reconciliation. It’s a drama that moves between bright summer and dark autumn, between idyll and tragedy. It’s a story as beautiful as it is unsettling, and I’m very much looking forward to bringing it to television.”
Linn Ullmann, whose novel has been published in 14 countries and was listed among The New York Times’ best books of the year, expressed her excitement about the adaptation. “‘The Cold Song’ is a multifaceted story about love and doubt, about secret lives and painful connections. I am delighted to follow Mikael and the entire team as they bring this story to the screen,” she said.
