MAFS star exposes Tim Gromie's 'weird' message during filming: 'Disgusting'

Married At First Sight fans have been left outraged following Tuesday night's episode when groom Tim Gromie brutally rejected his bride Katie Johnson at their wedding. Tim, a 38-year-old primary school teacher, repeatedly turned down Katie’s advances and admitted to producers that he had “no attraction” for his new partner as his preference is “petite blondes”.

Amid all of the social media backlash towards Tim, 2024 fan favourite bride Eden Harper has shared a video on TikTok revealing that he had messaged her during filming. The video, simply captioned “We stand with Katie”, shows that Tim slid into Eden's DMs at midnight on August 11 after listening to her tell-all interview with Yahoo Lifestyle.

“Hey been so refreshing listening to the interview on Yahoo. I’m on MAFS atm and. Now and so un sure. Hope to soon soon [sic],” he wrote.

While Eden sent a simple response the following morning saying she hopes he’s doing “all good in there” and “it can be rough at times”, she admitted in the video that she now thinks his message was “so f**ked up” after watching the episode.

Eden speaks out about 'weird' message

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle about her one-off interaction with Tim, Eden admits she “really didn’t think that much of it at the time”.

“I just thought it was just a cast member reaching out because that’s pretty standard. I reached out to people, people reached out to me, that’s a pretty normal thing for ex-cast and current cast to do,” she says.

“But I did think it was weird that he sent it at midnight and it was filled with typos. After watching the episode, I loved Katie and that’s not cool. The way he spoke about her was disgusting.”

Tim 'wants nothing to do with the show'

Fans quickly noticed after the 2025 cast was announced that Tim’s cast photo looked remarkably different to his co-stars', suggesting that he chose not to participate in the official press photo day.

An insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that Tim is “refusing to do interviews” about his time on MAFS and wants “nothing to do with the show”.

“Tim is really fearful the show is going to affect his employment as a primary school teacher, that's why he's deleted all socials, is refusing to do interviews and wants nothing to do with it,” they share. “He feels he was stitched up from the start and is now just trying to get through it with minimal damage to his career and reputation.”

What else do we know about Tim?

Tim’s cast bio states he's been “unlucky in love” and had his heart broken when he came close to proposing to an ex-girlfriend, only for her to suddenly end the relationship.

Since then, Tim took a year to "work on himself and recover" and describes himself as a romantic “big, cuddly teddy bear” who is looking for a caring partner and a genuine connection and hopes to have children of his own one day.
