Met Gala fans plead with 2025 guests not to make same 'disappointing' mistake as Chris Hemsworth
Fashion fans are predicting that the 2025 Met Gala theme will result in one thing.
The theme for the 2025 Met Gala has been announced ahead of the annual event in May. The "fashion Super Bowl" is held every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, with the theme being tied to the museum's Costume Institute's Spring exhibition.
The prestigious affair - which costs around USD $75,000 a ticket - attracts the Hollywood elite and, typically, harsh critiques of the people who are deemed to "not understand the assignment." Previous themes have included Camp: Notes on Fashion (2019), Punk: Chaos to Couture (2013) and China: Through the Looking Glass (2015).
In 2025, the theme will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity."
The announcement has been met with mixed responses, with many people expressing concern that the theme could veer into cultural appropriation territory or that people will fail to do the theme - and its deeply rooted historical relevance - justice.

"I pray, I pray my fellow YT people! Please do this properly! Do NOT make a mockery of something so important! If you are NOT sure how to come properly with the theme, just wear a nice suit or gown! Ask somebody! Hire a stylist who understands the theme! Thank you," stylist Paris Chea wrote on Instagram.
"Ok...Im thrilled to see so many Iconic Black Designers be recognised for the undeniable space they took in the influence of style throughout the years, but I'm kind of nervous for how this will translate with certain designers," Miss Golden Lady said. "If you are a designer approaching this space for the first time, please, please, please do your research or ask the appropriate folks...This could be one of the greatest moments we've seen in a very long time if done justly and correctly...🩷"
"I am very excited to see all of our Majestic Beauty as the beautiful kings & queens that we are as we Peacock showing our impeccable style, homaging dandyism & fashion through our globally unique lenses.," stylist Catrina the Creative wrote. "I pray that our other counterparts educate themselves & fully respect our plethora of fashion | and cultural contributions as they select their chosen looks. When interviewed I hope that they are integrous & respectful in their communications. Overall a Renaissance of a time will be had. 💕🖤"
An opportunity for Black designers
Many others expressed their excitement at the theme and the potential for previously overlooked Black designers to finally be represented in such powerful way.
"Black style through history has had an immeasurable influence on global fashion identity and commercialism. This Met Gala theme is wildly overdue," someone wrote.
"Hope this means more black designers will get the necessary recognition/sponsorship etc. to participate this MET," said another.
Fans major prediction about 2025 Met Gala
Despite the excitement, several people shared a common doubt about the event - that the men were not going to "bring it."
"Somehow the men will still disappoint and wear the most boring suits just like every year," one naysayer wrote
"And then men will wear tuxedos. Again," another person chimed in.
"Predicting all the males are going to be wearing default basic suits 😭," "The men need to come correct next year" and "Men coming in with simple black ties✨✨," were other remarks in response to the theme.
The predictions come after Chris Hemsworth was slammed by fans for showing up to the 2024 Met Gala in a regular suit - despite being one of the chairs of the event. The Aussie actor didn't seem to fit into the 2024 theme which was 'The Garden of Time' in celebration of the Costume Institute's exhibition, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'.

His simple look was met with plenty of criticism as fans took to social media to share their disappointment.
"Chris Hemsworth being a co-chair and still wearing a regular suit...jail," one fan wrote, while another said, "Chris Hemsworth is this a f***ing joke to you?"
"Everybody came to slay except Chris Hemsworth," a third agreed.
The chairs for the 2025 event are Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams with LeBron James serving as honorary chair.
