On Thursday morning, I woke up to a text from my co-worker and fellow MasterChef Australia viewer. The message was not one I wanted to read to start my day: my favourite contestant, the elusive yet brilliant Sue Bazely, had been eliminated during Wednesday night's pressure test. "This is my punishment for going to bed at 8:30 pm," I crankily thought to myself.

ICYMI: Sue (ironically) rose to prominence when viewers pointed out that she was "the most mysterious contestant in MasterChef history" after she received little to no airtime in the early weeks of the competition. Taking it all in her stride, Sue began captioning her Instagram posts with #who_is_sue, cementing her iconic status in our opinions...and hearts.

Recent episodes have seen the Victorian native receive more screen time and also serve up some truly mouth-watering dishes. We've also been treated to more of her backstory, learning that she decided to enter MasterChef as a way of finally chasing her dreams after years of raising her family.

In a twist more savage than the one at the end of One Day, just as we were getting to know Sue, she was eliminated in a challenge set by Curtis Stone and, let's just say, he has a lot to answer for.

Following Sue's exit, fans took to social media to complain that she had been done dirty by the edit in the series and that she deserved so much more.

"Sue is gone, and it's a shame she's had the edit she's had. Unfortunately, this show completely under edits people at times, and this year, Sue was on the receiving end. It's a shame as hers is an important story to tell - reinventing yourself later in life," one fan wrote on X.

"Sue, we hardly knew ye... cos of sh*t editing. But you did good," said another.

"Sue had the toughest edit in MC history. Bye Sue," a third wrote.

"Sue, you don’t deserve that sh*ttiest edit. The producers & editors have done you dirrrty!," yet another viewer wrote.

"So sad to see Sue go, I was starting to like her once she got her airtime!" said someone else.

Several fans also expressed their sadness that they hadn't had more of a chance to get to know her.

"I wish we had seen more of Sue in the earlier episodes, she's lovely," another person commented.

"Sue is gone it looks like. Such a shame, it feels like we were just getting to know her," agreed a different viewer.

"I feel a bit bad for Sue," mused someone else. "She cooked the scallops perfectly yesterday. I wish we got to see a bit more of her throughout the competition."

And others still praised the home cook for how well she had done during the parts of her experience that made it to air.

"Bad luck Sue you had a good run, looked tough keeping up with such an experienced Chef!," said one empathetic viewer.

"It’s such a shame as she had an amazing last few cooks and she’s bowed out with not much screen time. I thought they might have been saving her content for later," someone wrote.

"Poor Sue.. don’t think I’ve ever seen a contestant get so under edited despite making it relatively far. I do think this is a somewhat appropriate placement for her but I also feel like she was just picking up steam after her salt bake and team challenge performance," wrote another.

"I felt like Sue had a lot more to offer. This is sad," echoed a third.
