Married At First Sight fans have been given an early Christmas present with the release of the first trailer for the upcoming twelfth season. Channel Nine announced on Sunday evening that the reality TV juggernaut will return to screens after the Australian Open on January 27.

The teaser video gives viewers a glimpse at how each of the 2025 participants react at their wedding, with one bride excitedly exclaiming “Yes!” upon seeing her husband for the first time. Another bride jokes that she doesn’t bite “unless you ask”, while a third disappointingly tells producers she feels like a “fraud”.

The upcoming season appears to be all about the brides, with one female participant remarking in tears that she came on the show to find a “Cam and Jules kind of love”. Another proudly announces that her role is to serve her husband in “every possible way”.

The most dramatic moment in the trailer features one bride telling a producer that she already knows her groom, which is a “world first” for the reality show.

“How did it end with you and him?” the producer asks, to which the bride responds, “He just stopped texting”.

Yahoo Lifestyle previously revealed in July that one ex-couple had “accidentally” been paired together and didn’t realise until they met down the aisle.

Channel Nine teases that the upcoming season will be “the most explosive series yet” featuring “moments never seen before in the history of the show”.

The network also revealed that there will be a brand-new twist added to the experiment called ‘Final Test Week’, another international MAFS first.

The week will see some of the strongest couples faced with their biggest challenge yet as they’re confronted with the age-old question, ‘Is the grass greener on the other side?’.

“This season is certain to get Australia talking and falling in love with these new couples,” Nine said in a statement. “With the unpredictable Dinner Parties and emotionally charged Commitment Ceremonies, prepare for laughter, tears and a whole lot of drama, as this season surprises with shock twists and turns.”

While some viewers took to social media to describe MAFS as “garbage TV”, a majority of people expressed excitement at the show’s return next month.

“Yes omg bring on the drama,” one person commented, while another added, “Shut the front door! I’m waiting by the TV already”.

“This show is always an awesome disaster,” a third remarked, followed by someone else who said, “Fabulous! Like a train wreck that you can’t tear your eyes away from”.
