Naomi Watts reveals 'most romantic words' husband Billy Crudup ever said to her

Naomi Watts has opened up about the first time she and her husband Billy Crudup slept together, revealing he said some very "romantic words", but they weren't what you might expect. The Aussie actress wrote about the moment in her new book, Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I’d Known About Menopause.

The part memoir, part informative guide, is out now and speaks about a number of things, including Naomi's experience with hormone patches, which is how this story came up. She shared, "I’d started wearing the patch a couple of years earlier for hormone therapy. I was worried that if he saw it he would realise it meant I was menopausal: no longer a vibrant, fertile being."

"Unfortunately, the patch’s adhesive leaves a mark on the skin that’s very hard to get rid of."

While at Billy's house, she wrote that she "ripped [the hormone patch] off and scrubbed the skin raw". Billy asked her if she was OK because she'd been in there for some time, with the actress writing, "I came out mortified."

"I stumbled and reached for words, but nothing would quite come out."

She explained that she was going through menopause and recalls his reaction, "A smile broke over his face. He seemed very relieved that the issue wasn’t a lack of desire."

"He told me he thought it was great I was taking care of myself, and he asked me how he could help."

He then offered his own admission, telling her, "Hey, if it makes you feel better: I’ve got gray hairs on my balls."

The actress joked that, to this day, those are "the most romantic words" she has ever heard "onscreen or off".

"And that includes the script of every movie I’ve ever been in," she wrote. "And even this same man’s very loving marriage proposal, which came seven years later."

Naomi and Billy first met while starring in Netflix's Gypsy in 2017, they dated in private and didn't make their red carpet debut together until five years later. They confirmed in 2023 that they had married.

Before getting together, Naomi was in a relationship with Liev Schreiber for 11 years before splitting up in 2016. They share two children, Sasha, 17 and Kai, 16. Billy shares his son, William, 21, with ex-girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker, who he left for Claire Danes when Parker was seven months pregnant.
