Kmart shoppers loving $12 camping and caravanning essential: 'Takes up no room'

As thousands of Aussies prepare to take off on epic camping and caravanning adventures over the summer, they are also stocking up on the items and gadgets that will make their time on the road more seamless. From portable cooktops to bug zappers and storage solutions, there is no end to the nifty ways travellers can make their holidays as comfortable as possible.

However, as anyone who has ever vacationed in a caravan or tent knows, there is (sadly) no staff that come and do daily cleans of your accommodation. Nope, you still have to do all of your usual daily chores like cooking, laundry and washing up. Boo.

However, there's a product making waves online and being deemed the ‘must-have’ by campers and caravanners alike because it makes doing the dishes slightly less annoying: Kmart’s drying mat with rack.

The foldable product provides cushioning support for delicate dishes and an absorbent mat to soak up any water or detergent residue, retailing for only $12. Better yet, it is machine-washable (minus the rack) so it's super easy to maintain.

“I’ve been using this more than I thought I would, just for things that I use every day for medication etc. and can’t go in the dishwasher. I do have a dish rack, better for stuff that can’t go in the dishwasher, but this is also great for really large pieces of cookware,” posted one reviewer.

“I wanted a drying rack to leave on the bench while my dishes dry overnight. I love that this one fold up and can slide in under the sink so neatly. Also love that it goes in the washing machine, very easy to clean. Brilliant invention, and great price Kmart!” Said another.

“Had one for years in motorhome and now have one in camper. So easy to dry outside and put away in cupboard,” commented one buyer.

“This was a great purchase. We bought it for camping and it was wonderful. Takes up hardly any space and prevents whatever surface from getting wet. After you have used it you can easily wash it and dry it,” said another.

One particularly celebrated feature of the rack and mat is its foldable design, which saves space- something that any camper knows is essential.

“Very good, holds the plates, no water on the bench and it folds away easily,” said one five-star reviewer.

“KMART DRYING MAT WITH RACK. Having a large sink with no draining board I was on the hunt for a good drying mat but I found one even better with a dish rack all in one from @kmartaustralia. This mat is absolutely amazing and every 3 to 4 days I throw it in the washing machine (without the rack) and comes out looking like new. It's definitely one of my favourite buys from Kmart,” the customer wrote.
