Iconic food chain solves Christmas problem faced by every Aussie: 'Love your work'
If you dread the annual 'Kris Kringle' gift exchange, this one is for you.
If I didn’t respect the unofficial Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey so much (and I must add what a travesty denying her this Trademark was), I’d say that I should have the crown. Because the truth is, I love Christmas everything from decorating and carols to gift giving.
However, back in the day when I worked in an office when it came to workplace Kris Kringle (or Secret Santa), this was one area where some glimpses of the Grinch could be seen within my tinselly exterior. To buy for my colleague, often a person I had never spoken more than two words to (don’t judge me - it was a bit organisation), I was often left bewildered, frustrated, and ultimately scrambling for any random novelty gift that I thought could even remotely generate a smile on this stranger’s face.
I know I am not alone in having this problem, either. Various polls and surveys have shown that a significant portion of the population are not fans of the festive tradition - particularly in workplace settings. The potential for awkward gift-giving and the pressure to find a suitable (read: non-offensive) present within a budget are all factors that make this rite of passage downright stressful.
Simple solution for Secret Santa
This year though, Red Rooster has made Kris Kringle a whole lot easier Australia-wide and has me wishing that they’d done this five years ago when I last needed to participate in a work gift exchange.

Red Rooster? I hear you ask. Yes, you read correctly - let me introduce you to what could be the best Secret Santa or, better yet, prank gift for that jokester of your family or friend group: fried chicken-scented candles.
Just in time for Christmas Red Rooster (Reds) has collaborated with the candle queens at Angel Aromatics to create the limited-edition Fried Lights Chicken Candle and oh, how my mouth is already salivating.
While traditionally festive candle scents have included hints of peppermint, shortbread, or gingerbread, now Christmas dinner can also be recreated by Red Rooster’s Fried Lights Chicken and I for one am on board.
Free chips with candle purchase
Each candle pack includes 3 Fried Lights Chicken in authentic Red’s packaging and with a unique savoury chicken scent that takes on notes of Red Rooster’s iconic Chicken Salt, your stomach will be joining your tastebuds and wanting some of Australia’s iconic chicken shops’ fried chicken and chips.
And, because Red Rooster knows how nostalgic this aroma is, they’ve included a voucher for a free regular chips at any Red Rooster with every candle set purchased.
But perhaps the best thing is that not only do the candles smell like a Red Rooster Christmas (aka Chickmas) but they also look the part. In fact, the fried chicken drumstick candles are so realistic that aside from a wick poking out of the top, you’d be seriously considering taking a bite (please do not take a bite as they are not for consumption!).
Red Rooster fans excited for scented candles
I mean don’t take my word for it, have a look at Angel Aromatics packaging up these festive candles on a post shared to their TikTok and Instagram.
“This looks super delicious! Love your work,” responded one person.
While I (and the poster above) are obvious chicken lovers, even if you aren’t or simply won't be able to resist daily visits to Red Rooster with one burning, I can make a bet that someone you know will absolutely be clucking to receive one.
