Aussies are into camping and caravanning in a big way right now and with summer a few weeks away, even more adventurous folk are bound to hit the road to see where it takes them. While travellers love the freedom and affordability of caravanning, there are still a few grievances that come with this kind of holiday.

Whether it's the annoying clinking sound of jars in the fridge while you drive, a lack of storage space or sand being traipsed through the van, life on the road can throw up a few obstacles. Luckily, the caravanning community is not one to gatekeep, and they regularly share their clever solutions to common complaints.

Take, for example, one person who shared their idea for how to keep shoes neat and tidy when not in use.

If you've ever nearly broken your neck after tripping over a pair of Birkenstocks that were carelessly left lying around by your partner (okay, I may be projecting here) or someone else in your household or campervan, keep reading!

The savvy Bunnings customer took to a popular Facebook group to share their solution writing, "Perfect little storage hack to keep shoes out of the way."

The shopper had simply used what looks like the Barelli Piazza Matte Black Single Towel Rail from Bunnings - which sells for $31 - to create a little rack that fits neatly under the bed.

The shoes can then simply be placed upright behind the towel rack so that they are out of the way while also taking up very little space.

"What a bloody brilliant idea," one group member wrote. "Love it!! Thank you for sharing!"

"Fantastic hack. Love it," another said.

"Game changer! Thanks, I need this," yet another person added.

"Such a wonderful idea. Thanks for the inspiration," was another comment.

Plenty of other people said the idea was "genius" "excellent" and "so clever."

There were a couple of people who expressed a bit of doubt about the hack, but the original poster was quick to assuage their concerns.

"Love the idea… but I would hate to see the state of the walls once you have been through some red dirt or in a bush camp," one person wrote.

"They’re removable so I can take them off to give them a good clean when this happens," the OP replied.

"I like this idea but feel I'd kick my little toe the same way as I kick the supermarket trolleys," another group member said.

"Haha your poor toes! But I think you’d be ok with this!" was the reply. "I walked up and down the side a few times in different ways and my feet never went under that bit of the bed. Because the mattress hangs out of the frame they’re nicely tucked away."

If $31 is a bit too much to swing right now, fear not because there are more affordable solutions as well.

One commenter shared that they use a container from Kmart to store their slides, sandals and slippers and that it "fits neatly down the sides of our bed." The item looks like the $5.50 Narrow Fridge Organiser from the budget retailer.

Another option for anyone wanting to try the towel rack hack is the Estilo 600mm Bella Chrome Single Towel Rail from Bunnings which, at $14.30 is half the price of the black matte version.

Another person suggested the IKEA Trones Shoe Cabinet, saying "Added advantage of hiding them away and containing any dirt that might be on the shoes." While the IKEA option is more expensive ($39) you do get two of the cabinets for that price. The item is also highly rated on the IKEA website with several people saying the shoe cabinet is perfect for caravans.

"Added to under our bed in van - fits perfect!" one reviewer wrote. "Great storage and keeps van nice and tidy."
