Kmart shopper's DIY Christmas decoration hack using $5 item: 'Beautiful'

If you’re anything like me, then you love to decorate your entire house during the Christmas period. From the festive scented candles and Santa-themed cookware to the elaborate tree and lights hanging around the living room, nothing’s off limits when it comes to home décor in the holiday season.

One social media user took things to the next level this week when she shared a video showing how she made her own Christmas wreath using a $5 item from Kmart. Interior stylist Dina (@dina.sweethome.style_) purchased a collection of Artificial Christmas Pine Stems from the retail store to create a stylish garland to hang above her mirror in the dining room.

She tied the pine stems together with brown string and added some olive branches she already had at home. She then attached a white bow and some bells in the middle, which she had purchased from Pillow Talk and TK Maxx, and finished it off with $4 Silver Wire String Lights from Kmart.

“My dining room is finally getting ready for Christmas and first thing up for Christmas décor is my DIY mirror wreath I made using the Kmart pine branches and some olive branches I had at home already,” she wrote in the caption.

“I didn't want to spend money on one so I used already what I had at home and [I’m] quite happy [with] how it turned out.”

'So beautiful and festive'

Fans quickly took to the comments to praise the “fabulous” and “amazing” hack, with one person writing: “I adore this.”

“So beautiful and festive!” another added, while a third said, “I love it!”.

“Clever lady… looks beautiful,” someone else shared, followed by a different user who replied, “I did the same thing!”.

Kmart’s Artificial Christmas Pine Stems are designed to “accentuate and complement your Christmas décor” and are suitable for indoor use only. The store also sells an Articifical Christmas Berry Stem for $5 which you could also use around the home or as part of a floral arrangement.

Kmart's 2024 Christmas collection divides shoppers

This comes shortly after Melbourne-based content creator Mark Polchleb (@markp_) shared a TikTok showcasing some of Kmart’s quirky home decor which seems to centre around one thing - Christmas pudding.

The range includes a $10 pudding doormat, a $14 pudding cushion, a $10 2-pack pudding serving dishes, a $5 pudding mug, and a $5 pudding soap dispenser.

“It’s never too early!” he wrote in the caption. “Already obsessed with this first look of Kmart Christmas decor. They are already nailing the cutesy, dopamine festive decor trend and I am here for it!”

Shoppers took to the comments to praise the new range and say they will be “running to Kmart”, with many describing the pudding doormat as the must-have item for Christmas this year.
