Princess Charlotte's $1,800 Necklace Had a Surprising Connection to Prince Harry
She's got expensive taste.
It has been more than two years since Princess Charlotte and Prince Harry last united—at least publicly. To the world's knowledge, Charlotte and her uncle last crossed paths in September 2022 at Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral in London. There, they shared a sweet moment while sitting side-by-side in Westminster Abbey. Their lack of relationship is an unfortunate side effect of Harry's estrangement from his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles III. While the duo are unlikely to spend time together in the near future, Charlotte seems to be preserving their connection sartorially.
Charlotte enjoyed a big royal outing on December 25, where she joined her mom, Princess Kate; her dad, William; her brothers, Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6; her grandfather, Charles; and her step-grandmother, Queen Consort Camilla for their annual Christmas morning service as Sandringham Church.
For the regal occasion, Charlotte indulged in some merry matching with her family, donning a blue-and-green tartan coat dress, navy blue stockings, and shiny black Mary-Jane flats. The men of the family coordinated in dark-blue suits and overcoats, while Kate synched up in a forrest-green coat dress, a matching fascinator, black boots, black gloves, a black purse, and a green-and-blue plaid scarf.
Eagle-eyed onlookers noticed one more subtle detail in Charlotte's ensemble that nodded to her uncle: a dainty, gold-and-ruby chain necklace that peaked out from her jacket collar. According to Daily Mail, the $1,800 necklace is from a brand called Aya, which was created by Harry's ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy. (The piece is no longer available on the brand's website.)
Davy and Harry first met when she was studying at Cheltenham College; they became an item in 2004, when they united in Cape Town during Harry's gap year. The two dated on and off for several years and officially called it quits in 2011.
Harry, of course, later married Suits actress Meghan Markle in May 2018 and went on to welcome two kids, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Davy even attended their wedding at St George's Chapel.
Davy has previously spoken about the "nuts" attention she received as a result of their romance. She was photographed with Kate on several occasions at the brothers' polo matches.
Harry sweetly wrote about his ex-flame in his memoir, Spare, recounting how she did not trouble herself with appearances, propriety, or royalty.
"Unlike so many girls I met, she wasn’t visibly fitting herself for a crown the moment she shook my hand," Harry wrote. "She seemed immune to that common affliction sometimes called throne syndrome. I’d always wanted to know what it might be like to meet a woman and not have her eyes widen at the mention of my title but instead to widen them myself, using my mind, my heart."
Royal biographer Robert Lacey explained in his book Battle of Brothers that their split came after Kate and William's 2011 wedding. According to a friend, she told Harry she wasn't capable of making the sacrifices Kate made, especially subjecting herself to the spotlight.
Davy later married The Harper Hotel owner Sam Cutmore-Scott, with whom she welcomed two children.
